General Education Requirement

<p>Can someone explain what the general education requirement would be like? I was looking at the website, and the number of courses for each general ed category seemed quite small. Would more courses be added to each category as we get closer to September?</p>

<p>More classes should be added by the time you get here. If it’s anything like the core was for us, there should be approximately 5-10 courses offered in each field each semester (as well as any departmental courses that can count)</p>

I am a current student. What do I need to know about the Program in General Education?</p>

<p>The new Program in General Education will be implemented in the Fall of 2009 and students in the Class of 2013 will enter under the new requirements.</p>

<p>Current students will be able to switch to the new program in Fall 2009, if it makes sense with their overall programs and progress towards degree.</p>

<p>A small number of General Education courses are being offered this year. All General Education courses will receive a designation in the Core program to ease the transition to the new program.</p>

<p>My interpretation is that the courses you see listed were for fall 2008/spring 2009, before GER took effect, and that these courses were primarily offered for those current Harvard students who would be looking to changing their graduation requirements from Core to General Education. I expect that when fall 2009 course offerings are released, many more GER courses will be offered since the class of 2013 will have no choice but to graduate under the GER requirements.</p>
