General Education Requirements

I am an incoming freshmen to BU and am also trying to get a head start on my classes for this coming fall semester. After looking at the general education requirements on the degree requirements page for CAS, it said that I would need to take courses in four divisions: Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Math/Computer Sci, and Humanities.

I only need to take one class in each division right? So essentially, one semester?

Also, what classes can I take to fulfill the Humanities requirement? Is there an actual Humanities class?

Thanks for the help!

No, you need 2 classes per division. However, you don’t have to take courses in the field your major falls under. For instance, I’m a Classics major, so I’m not required to have Humanities courses for my general requirements. Also, on top of the general requirements, you’re also required to have 2 writing courses, Writing 100 and Writing 150. Plus, the science you take has to have a lab portion in the class to count towards general requirements. In total, this adds up to 8 classes. You also need to fill a foreign language credit if you did not test out of it.
