So I was accepted to General Engineering at UIUC. When I applied I did not know much about the major and truthfully had plans of trying to switch out. However, as I have been gathering more information about the major specifically at UIUC, it seems that it is very interesting and provides many opportunities. I don't want to be tied down to a specific concentration of engineering so early in my college career and am thinking that General Engineering is the right path after all. It opens doors to business, medicine, any concentration of engineering, etc.

I'm wondering if anyone has experience with General Engineering at either UIUC or any other university and is willing to give some insight. I'm not looking for information on which path can get me more money because I'm not worried so much about my salary as I am about my quality of life. Engineering opens enough doors for comfortable salaries so I am confident that where ever I end up in the engineering field, I'll be okay financially. I am just wondering about the opportunities General Engineering provides and if it is as interesting as I've gathered it to be. Thanks.
