i just signed up for general engineering because i was told it reallyyyyy helps you out with making good grades in calculus/chem/physics etc. its 2 hrs twice a week though. but its an easy A for my gpa. is the GE worth the time??

uhm GE is an easy A but , to tell you the truth, its really boring and dull. It’s a TA class basically and they just review problems constantly. I hated it so much because mines was everyday for 2 hours from 3 p.m.- 5p.m. after my physics class for only 2 credit hours.

I’m wondering about the same thing. I’m taking GE with the hopes of getting an A in Engineering Physics I. I read that a common complaint of students who took this physics course is that many professors did not provide enough example problems, so maybe GE will help in that area?

getting an A in EP I is REALLY difficult…

so should i stick with the GE class? nothing to lose from it?

Yeah, you can always just drop it you think it’s too much of a waste of time.

you are only allowed to drop before the 12th class day if you don’t want a Q showing up on your transcript. and sometimes GE classes don’t even meet during the first week of class i think. so be sure to drop before the the 12th class day.

GE’s tend to range in the benefit you can get from them. it really just depends on the TA. i had a great TA for my 408C class…and honestly i just stopped showing up to the my prof’s lectures near the end of the semester and opted to learn all the material from the TA in my GE class and self-study from the book because he was that great of a TA. however, my friend had a really bad experience with his TA in 408D which made the GE class miserable for him. he told me he hated his prof’s teaching style as well his GE TA’s…and ironically, the prof taught slightly better than the TA. and because the TA was ahead of his prof in teaching, my friend didn’t understand any of the concepts that were taught to him in the GE class until he went to his prof’s lectures. the prof apparently made it easier to understand then the TA. so he began to skip the GE class, and ended up skipping more than that is allowed (either 1 or 2 more days than are allowed). He was afraid that he would end up with a B in the GE class, but surprisingly, the TA was nice enough to give him an A anyway. and, in the end, he did make an A in 408D but i’m sure it was through self-study. so yeah, what TA you get in the GE class is straight up based on luck…just know that you always have that option to drop before the 12th class day to prevent any academic consequences.

Thanks man! That helped tremendously. I’ll give it a shot then.
