General Housing Question

Hi, so I was admitted to Illinois and i'm new to this whole northern american college thing as i'm an international student. I know this might sound like a really stupid question but our college process where i come from is completely different... So do you have to fill out housing/ residence forms for more than one college that you've been accepted to, to guarantee yourself a place and then back out of all but one of them when you've made a final decision? Just because I know that i'll have to wait till mid April for admissions results from some schools but I want to guarantee myself housing...especially as i'm from overseas...

Thanks in advance for any help!

It depends on the school, but if housing is first come, first serve then biting the bullet and doing what’s needed to apply to keep your best options open before making your final decision is what you should do. Many housing deposits are totally or partially refundable, but usually involve money up front. It’s definitely a catch-22, and colleges, while aware, aren’t in any hurry to do much about it. You need to weigh the additional cost against the risk of not getting optimal housing, such as it is.
