General Impression of Clark Honors College

Hi. My D just got early acceptance to the Honors College! I read past posts about the program being a bit disappointing e.g. hard to coordinate with all the university-wide requirements, possibly not worth the extra tuition, etc. She is hoping to go to a small liberal arts college out of state (if financial aid comes through), but this program seems like a good option too. Does the Honors College provide a smaller-school feeling and cohesive group of peers? In general, what have you heard about the program (recently), either as a potential student/parent or someone already there? Thanks!

Anyone have comments for us?

My son was accepted as well. He has also been accepted to small LACs so this is a tough choice for us. UO is cheaper since he has been offered both UO Presidential and Summit Scholarships and we are instate, but UO overall is still a large school. The entire Clark Honors program has been reviewed. It is being revamped to address the type of of issues raised in past posts. There is also the suggestions that the HC tuition differential will be lowered. See https://provost.uoregon.edu/chc-faculty-memo. If HC tuition is reduced and the program better integrated with other UO programs, while maintaining small class sizes and a more challenging curriculum, then this will be a big improvement. Based on the likely changes and merit aid offered, this is likely to be where he goes unless one of the LACs comes through with an amazing financial aid package.

Thanks, kiwiatlarge! We agree with your impressions – and my daughter is still waiting on several LACs re. admission and/or financial aid… Glad to hear that U of O is addressing some of the problems with the HC. Really appreciate hearing that. Best of luck to your son!

My son has also been accepted to the Clark Honors College. We are OOS. With the honors pricing, this program costs more than his other options. I hope the tuition differential is lowered before he has to make his decision.

UO dropped the Honors College fee to $2,700 - a reduction of ~35%.

My daughter is still waiting to hear from the Honors College. How did your kids hear?

My D got an early notice in the mail. Financial aid just came out this week, so maybe more acceptances are coming too. Good luck!

Anyone willing to share stats for those admitted to the honors college ?
