Hey guys, I'm a high school senior who's interested in getting an MBA. I have a few questions.... to get into the top b-schools, what activities should i pursue in my freshman year in university? extra ciric, clubs, etc. i know this is wayyy too early but when should i start preping for the GMAT? Any awards that B-schools particularly value? I know that for undergrad schools, awards in debate are a big thing. Would doing a summer program be better? or would getting an internship/job somewhere? Is there any info that you wish you'd known when you were in senior year? I know i'm really early for this.... probably because I just finished up all of my university apps and i'm still on that "high" that you've all probably experienced... and if you're wondering why i'm posting on CC on a friday night, all my friends are ridiculously depressed cause they just got rejected from Stanford, Wharton, etc. :P anyways, thanks so much for the info. I really appreciate it!

I'm actually really interested in this as well, and would also appreciate any replies to canucksource's questions.

my sister is currently accepted to the exec MBA prog at penn state, and my dad is a penn state MBA as well. My dad is currently a finanace exec at IBM.

As he says to get into MBA programs, get a good FIRST job that will give you experience in your intended occupation and keep your grades up. If you suck at Gen Eds, study something you like so you can keep your In Major grades up.

My sister had an Internship at Johnson and Johnson and a COOP at IBM (that my dad didnt help her get)

good gpa, ECs(aim at leadership in major-related clubs), any work that shows you took initiative is great - start clubs, start organization, etc.

i've heard starting your own side businesse in college is great if they're successful and don't detract from your grades
