General Q about AP Chem

Hey guys,

I decided to study for AP Chem last week and bought a practice book from Princeton Review. It appears that I learned all of them over 2 years of chemistry exception of laboratory (we didn’t really give much thoughts to this… just basic stuffs like no horseplay and don’t do anything harmful to school =p). Anyway, just looking that the study guide made me to wonder few things:

How hard is the test in general? The book gave me percentage but I want to hear opinions in CC.

Is it possible to review all of them during summer from now on? If so, how many hours should I spend per day and for how long?

How do you grade your essays for FRQ?

Essays seem to take larger percentage (55%) compared to MC (45%). Does that mean I should focus more on essay or what?

Which is easier to do well? Essay or MC?

Thanks for answering these questions. This’ll be my second AP (woohoo… can’t wait till AP Calc BC score next month)

With a decent amount of preparation, its not all that hard. the best way is to just do tons of problems so when the test comes at u, u kno exactly what do

I did like 3 hrs a week starting in October, and Igot through 2 full-sized prep books. So it depends how much time u will have during the yr

Basically, its 1 point for work/reasoning and 1 for answer, so abt 2 pts per part (a,b,c,d...). The exception is when there's a one word answer, then its 1 point

Not anymore, since now its 50-50 I think

All depends on the test and how uve prepared

Your welcome

I'd say MC is easier as would everybody else in my AP Chem class.

MC is easier for those good at math, while FR is easier for those who can apply their knowledge well.

MC's much more cut-and-dry.

In the '07 test, the MC felt very computational (a lot of kids in my chem class said that the big time limiting factor was the number crunching), but the FR was very, very easy compared to prior tests (basically spoonfed some answers for the reactions).

It's entirely possible to review--just make sure to really understand it and not just memorize. PR is quite good, and Barron's is ok for extra stuff/review. If you need practice problems, you can get used college texts for really cheap off amazon (7 or 8 dollars for an older version).

Best of luck with both this and your BC calc scores. :)

Thanks guys. It gave me great confidence. Woohoo!

By the way, is it really true that MC:FRQ = 1:1 as first replier said? Then that would be sweet... I hate FRQ in general (haha.. maybe from horrible FRQ in Calc BC this year ha).
