I am a junior going into senior year. I had some general questions about admissions. I have really low SAT scores V- 530 M-690 W-500. By the end of senior year, i would have taken ten APs. My extracurricular, letters of recommendation, GPA(4.5 weighted), and essay are really strong. I am also a URM(hispanic) and first generation. I have never been strong with english since my parents taught me spanish while I was learning english. I always mixed up both languages and never seem seemed to understand english grammar well. Will this effect my chance into getting into school such as Upenn, duke, MIT, cornell, because of my low SAT scores?

bump bump

Depends on the school’s weight on SAT over other things. I would say it would effect you, because it would seem at top schools you wouldn’t be in the 50th percentile.

While you will get a boost for being first generation and Hispanic so that you can have lower scores than kids without a hook, all schools will still want you to have scores that show you will not have difficulty in your environment. The schools on your list will be looking for scores in the 1900s at minimum.

A summer spent reading, getting some tutoring and practicing could get you there.

Thanks! I actually was planning to read a lot. Especially New York Times, Times, and pleasure books. Thanks again.
