General question for all Columbia students

Why did you choose Columbia over other schools? What made it stand out to you/why did you want to even apply to Columbia?

In your ___ years at Columbia, what's the thing that you will remember the most?

^I love their business undergrad school…

He’s kidding. Columbia College tries hard to stay away from undergraduate pre-professionalism, though there are of course programs that prepare you well for medical school, law school, and even business school.

To answer your question, I think the Core is a fundamental part of a Columbia College education. It really defines your first two years, and its influence is felt even by upperclassmen. In terms of the experience outside of class, it’s really defined by the city. That doesn’t mean everyone goes downtown every weekend; they don’t. But the general attitude of the city pervades campus, there are numerous opportunities to engage with the cultural/artistic/business/intellectual life of the city, and the city’s and Columbia’s prominence attracts influential and powerful leaders and scholars to the campus.

This is the type of question that elicits responses involving intimate experiences in famous buildings, drunken escapades, etc.
