<p>If an essay says "approximately 250 words," do you think 300 (exactly) is too much? What would be a good range?</p>
<p>I’d go for 225-275. Trust me, you can cut out parts of your essay, all you have to do is look hard enough XD</p>
<p>If it says that, they probably means at most 250 (but since they said approximately, I would try to get at least 225). Because on the Common App if you go over a certain limit they’ve set, it’ll tell you to cut out words so they probably set that as the limit.</p>
