<p>Exactly how important is class rank?
My school only gives ranks if the university absolutely requires it. I feel that I am in the first or second tenth of my school, but I feel that rank is not that important. </p>

<p>There are way more factors to account for than how you place in context with your school.</p>

<p>So my more specific questions are these:
What is the point of class rank?
Do colleges use it to pick on student over another?
Can there be more than one student from the same school going to schools like Caltech, MIT, HPY's etc. ?</p>

<p>It mostly depends upon the colleges. It is them who decide which they would prefer, the class rank or the GPA.</p>

<p>Yes they do use it to pick from one student from another, but there is a lot more other than the class ranks. The SAT scores, essays, EC’s all come into play.</p>

<p>Yes, there can be more than one student from a particular school in those colleges. It depends largely upon YOU rather than your school!</p>
