I have a 3.997 high school GPA.
A 3.96 College GPA with 41 credits taken, I went full time my first year at community college but since the passing of my grandfather in Nov.2010 I have just been able to go part time. I had to work to help out with my Mom and grandparents bills.

I will be a first generation college graduate.
I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa.
I have made the deans list every Semester since I started college.
I work two jobs one at my community college as a Chemistry tutor, the other at a rest home.
I didnt take the SATs/ ACT I just took the placement exam at my college.

My ECs are I love to paint and I am self taught Photoshop and enjoy doing visual arts, I love to play tennis when time permits, I volunteer at a nursing home at least once a week.
My major will be Chemistry or Visual Arts.
If there anything I am lacking on, or that I need to be doing that could help my chances please let me know?
Thank you!

You’ll need to take the SAT/ACT or the GS admissions exam. Otherwise you sound like a strong candidate. Write an awesome essay, and answer any questions the admissions committee might have.

Also FYI, you can’t transfer more than 60 credits. If you’re taking a huge number of classes you should be careful about going way above that (some will not transfer, but most will).

I strongly suggest taking the SAT/ACT. Not because it matters much for GS, but for the mere sake of your future job hunting pleasure when you are COMPETING with your PEERS at THIS institution :D

But the important part is that you MAY find yourself in a position where YOU are excluded from certain elite internships if you fail to furnish an SAT/ACT score along with unofficial transcripts. Nobody is going to hold your hand and tell you this because EVERYONE HERE is stepping all over each other for the same internships. Besides, it is already assumed that a Columbia student has taken the SAT’s… So make sure you do your research and stay two steps ahead of the game. Consider yourself warned.

Does the high school GPA really affect an applicant?? I’ve been out of high school since 2005 and I’m not even sure what my GPA was! I know it’s really low. Does the high school transcript weigh a lot?
