General Studies vs College

...I can't seem to figure out the difference!

They seem to have the same majors/concentrations...or am I missing something?

If I want to major in Biology and do pre-med which one would be for me?

CC is for normal kids, you know, the spoiled sonofabbches… GS is for people who are under special circumstances…such as 40hour work weeks, two divorced families that do drugs so you have to support 6 brothers and sisters, father dying in afghanistan and mother working 12 hour shifts, etc.

1) there has been a really long thread on this already -http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/columbia-university/30154-columbia-college-vs-school-general-studies.html?highlight=General+Studies

2) they basically offer the same thing - GS does offer the BS degree in some majors, and GS supports the PostBac program in Premedical education (for folks already with bachelors degrees who want to go to med school and need to take the courses). it also participates in a joint degree program for ‘traditional’ students with the Jewish Theological Seminary so that they receive degrees from columbia and jts.

3) the wording goes - if you are applying right after high school or after 1 gap year you may apply to columbia college. if you take more than that 1 year off (went right into the workforce after hs) or have taken a break during your college education (let’s say you went to college for 2 years, dropped out to start a software company and wanted to come back).

4) GS is primarily a commuter school whereas CC is a residential college (students live on campus).

which one is right for you depends on how far removed from high school you are. regardless, you can do biology and be pre-med at both.
