General transferring concerns

I just finished my first year of college and as of now I plan on transferring to the University of Alabama. However as of late, I've been concerned over whether this is still what I want to do.

I am not second guessing actually transferring, but transferring to Alabama. It's the only place I got into, and my grades were no better 2nd semester so I would not get in any where better.

I'm from NY, so I'd be a fish out of water as it is (I love the south and football, if your curious as to why I'd transfer to Alabama in the first place) but I just got my residence hall and roomate assignments and after seeing who I'll be rooming with via facebook...I'm even now more skeptical about transferring.

So those are my concerns over transferring. However there is part of me that does just want to go there in the fall for these reasons.

I already feel like I wasted a year at my original school, and I feel if I stayed home for a year, took classes at a CC and transferred in the fall of '09 I would've wasted another year and before you know it I'm a junior.

Also, If I were to trasnfer to Alabama I would definitely look into joining a fraternity, but I'm concerned that if I waited til my junior year to transfer joining a frat would be akward as most frat pledge classes are made up by a lot of freshman, and the kids who are older and already in the fratnernity would already have a strong connection with one another and it would be harder for me to fit.

I'm just seeking some general advice, any would be great, and I appreciate everyone who reads this. Thanks
