Hey guys, I just want to know where I stand among you guys. I have good test scores but I feel that my ECs will weigh me down. I'll be applying in the field of engineering (probably Electrical) so it'd be great if you guys could tell me if I have a chance for Stanford, EECS Berkeley, UCLA, or any other engineering schools

Objective:
• SAT I (breakdown): 2330 (800 M, 730 CR, 800 W)
• ACT (breakdown): N/A
• SAT II : 800 Math II, Chem (hopefully 800, but realistically 750ish), Physics (probably 800)
• GPA: 4.00 unweighted so far
• Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 1 (school ranks on unweighted GPA, there are a lot of kids with 4.0)
• AP (place score in parentheses): World History (4), Lit (?), Calc AB (?), Comp Sci (?), Physics C Mechanics (self study this year) (?)
• IB (place score in parentheses): N/A
• Senior Year Course Load: AP Chem, AP Lang, AP Macroecon, AP Gov, AP Calc BC, Multimedia

• State (if domestic applicant): CA
• Country (if international applicant): N/A
• School Type: Public

• Income Bracket: 100,000
• Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Nope

UCLA: Match
Berkeley: Match
Stanford: Reach

If you think you can do with additional reaches you can always try Cornell, Columbia, Harvard (although EE is Harvard’s weak spot you can still try)

Thanks for replying. I know that EECS at Berkeley is much harder to get into compared to other majors. Do you think I still have a chance considering I don’t have any MAJOR ECs

Berkeley and UCLA: Match
Stanford: Reach
I definitely think you can get into Berkeley and UCLA. Stanford, however, will be quite a reach seeing as you don’t have many awards (which most Stanford admits will have) and you’re Asian (which Stanford is literally filled with). But your GPA and SAT are extremely solid along with your ECs so you still have a shot!
Chance back?

Your stats are EXCELLENT, but your EC’s fall pretty short. However, I wouldn’t try stacking anything on last minute. I’d just take advantage of your summer and start working on those essays!

Your chances of getting into Stanford without great EC’s or hooks are slim to none, because at Stanford everyone has your grades and test scores.

Stanford: Reach
UCB: Low Reach/High Match (CoE), Match (L&S)
UCLA: Match

I think you definitely have a shot w/ your awesome scores. The only concern I have about your ECs is that there’s no passion towards EECS. I’d try learn some Java/C++ on your own and since you took APCS, it won’t be too hard to learn more. I’d start on those essays and ask your teachers for recs early :)

I agree with a lot of the other people that posted. Your grades and test scores are great, but your ECs are a bit lacking. It’s not that you haven’t put in enough time (you have enough hours for sure), but I don’t see one overarching passion. I’m not an expert, but I think schools are looking for something that you’re really involved in, you love to do, and you can make an impact on campus with. Stanford’s a reach for anyone, but you have better chances at the other two. Good luck!
