Hello all.
I've applied to several colleges, though I'd really like to go to GIT, and haven't applied.
On paper, it seems extremely unrealistic that I could afford it. Statistics show that GIT meets like 75% of need on average and averages 4k in merit. I have an EFC of 15-20K, and probably wont even be able to afford that. Clearly I have missed the deadline for the Presidential scholarship.

My question: Should I even apply? Is there any chance I could go there and end up paying under about 15K a year?

If it makes any difference, I'm a pretty competitive applicant (34 act, 2270 sat, ranked 3/700, varsity athlete, NMQST commended, plenty of ECs).

Why not? Tech’s application is not particularly involved. You are a very qualified applicant, and it’s always better not to close too many doors early on. Because Tech is a state school, they have a legal obligation to financially serve students in state with a slightly higher priority than students out of state. Also, in state students have Georgia’s state scholarship program, HOPE. So, money directly from the institute or the state can be hard to come by for out of state students. However, look towards local Tech alumni clubs as a source of scholarship money. As I recall, the deadlines for those scholarships are in the spring. Also, Tech has a lot of employment opportunities available, even if you are not on financial aid. I would suggest keeping your options open, and looking into what scholarships are available in your area. In my experience, local scholarships are much easier to get than the national ones.
