hi! this is my first thread on cc so please bear with me if i do something wrong :)
i'm interested in becoming a genetic counselor, and although i've researched graduate programs and read through the national society of genetic counselors website, i'm still not sure exactly how to prepare for grad school and the career itself. i've looked into applying to the sarah lawrence camp (i think it's only a day though - not an extensive camp or anything) and read bios of programs' successful applicants. i'm concerned though that the acceptance rate into those programs is so low - around 4% for the most competitive, although i'm just assuming that those programs are the most competitive as i haven't found any kind of comparison lists or anything. i guess my questions are: 1) what are some good ways to prepare for genetic counseling (beyond the required classes) 2) what genetic counseling programs are well-known and respected among employers and 3) how competitive is the process (beyond just acceptance rates - as in how qualified are the applicants who are or are not accepted)? thanks so much!!
