Genetics freshman seminar

Considering a freshman seminar on modern genetics with Dr. Crouse. Anyone have any thoughts? The description suggests one should have a strong background in bio. I am a bit concerned due to some negative comments on rate my professor, but the class sounds very interesting.

To be honest, I think one of the reasons people were mad at him last year when they took human genetics (the non-seminar/upperlevel version of the course) was because he was kind of difficult(and perhaps a little arrogant). When teachers are kind of difficult (as an upperlevel genetics class should be. And theirs was likely a tad easier than mines because they never had to do problem sets, which were laborious, yet useful for learning the material), people get mad when the lecturer isn’t absolutely perfect at teaching. I think it’s sort of unfair, but whatever. I actually think you could learn from the guy and since it is a seminar, they tend to give out pretty high grades anyway (he ended up inflating a lot for his actual genetics class apparently. Apparently many expecting a B grade got an A). It’s a seminar, so it probably does not matter how much biology you know now. My freshman seminar ORDER had modules containing issues I never heard of in biochemistry, yet I picked them up and it was quite enjoyable. Get in a study group for paper readings or something (however, I find those in most freshman seminars blow off the reading because they know how it’s graded. It pretty much requires that there are exams for most to do them fully).
