genuinely confused (corona's impact on CC)

hi all, i’m a freshman community college student in NJ (in a very bad area for the coronavirus). i just started my first semester of community college this spring (i took a gap semester in the fall).

i already have 20 credits with a 3.70 GPA and will be planning on applying to somewhat competitive schools this fall when I am at 30 credits, but i am afraid of not having ANY EC’s on my application will affect me getting accepted into schools.

my college is completely shut down and is currently being used as a testing center, and will probably remain closed until next fall at the earliest.

i am unable to join any clubs, do any volunteer work, or apply for any internships. i have absolutely no connections with my professions since everything is online and I basically had no chance of getting to know them. in addition, my high school GPA & ACT score were not the best and I had almost no ECs due to medical reasons. is this going to be held against me? hundreds of other applicants are going to have laundry lists of ECs and other activities.

also will getting a Pass/Fail grade for one class be held against me?

sorry if this is in the wrong section, i am new here.

thank you!

Everyone is in your situation with online instruction. The CC where I teach in Maryland will be in online-only status through the first half of the summer, and is preparing to extend that into the second half of the summer and the fall as needs may be.

But, trust me, your professors do know you. They see the work that you are putting in, and they are reading any emails you send them. They will be able to write you letters of recommendation if you need them. Just ask them.

You have no ECs because of medical issues. So don’t worry about ECs. Just be you. If a college or university doesn’t want you because you are yourself, then you don’t want to be there. Focus on doing what you can do, and getting good grades.
