would being from North Dakota be considered a hook at Muhlenberg?

I am not very familiar with addmissions at this school, but i would think it would be considered a hook.

I guess i am just worried about getting any financial aid. I am a junior from a very rural area of Northe Dakota.

My stats are in the median of an average muhlenberg applicant

ACT-30
GPA - 3.55
my class rank is only in the top 25% though, how much will this hurt my chances?
My school only has two AP's, only offered to seniors, i will be taking only one of them. but i am taking an AP online this summer.

EC's
VP of student advisory for two years
liason for key club
close up
track and field for 4 years
cross - country 4 yeas (captain)
teach sunday school to kids at local church
co founded running club for young kids during the summer that has so far raised of $3500 for local running and biking trails
interning at law firm this summer

Muhlenberg is my dream school and i have been in contact with the school sense my sophmore year. I am working to pay for a plane ticket out to interview this fall. I will also be applying ED.

Do you think i have a chance at any money? i will not be able to attend without major financial assistance.

Any opinions would be appreciated.

I don't know if it's really a hook per se, but it will be a plus for your application! Most people are from the tri-state (PA, NY, NJ) area. Be aware though that Muhlenberg's maximum merit aid is $15,500 and that includes being part of an Honors program. That still leaves about half of tuition, room, and board. Merit aid is really your best bet though as it alone can go as high as $12,500.

I can't say if ED is really the best route financially...but if it's your dream school, go for it! Four happy, if expensive, years, may be well worth it.

At an info session we went to, Muhlenberg stated clearly that they have a separate "pool" of both merit and need-based money for ED students and for RD students. They said that they want to give money to the kids who want them most. They specifically said that it doesn't matter that they don't have to "woo" the ED students with merit money. So it doesn't seem that applying ED will hurt you in the financial aid department.

You may also want to talk to the FA office about your situation before you apply next year. I don't know if Muhlenberg promises to meet 100% of need.
