Geographic hook

I'm from Mississippi and was wondering if geographic diversity serves as a significant hook in the admissions process. Any thoughts?

I don't think it serves as a SIGNIFICANT "hook" per se...I don't know if it counts as a hook at all. Just like everything else, I think it's merely something that is considered. That said, it can never hurt to come from a state that doesn't usually send a lot of kids to Princeton. Good Luck :)

i'm beginning to think the geographic hook is something we cc'ers made up to make us feel like we had an advantage

hahahaha, apt observation :D

there is a preference. Princeton doesn't want a class that consists of conn. mass. new jersey and new hampshire. Also, don't forget that some academic honors depend on geography. If i lived in Mississippi, I would probably be a National Merit Finalist.

although I agree with ur post kb, I still don't think that the OP's location is a SIGNIFICANT hook...not saying its not a factor though, its just not a SIGNIFICANT factor...i'm sure they would rather have a 1600 from a northeastern applicant than a 1210 from a midwestern one
