I noticed on the MIT Admit Card that geography was a factor that MIT looked at. Does anyone know to what extent geography affects decision? BTW, I'm from northern Oklahoma. I am also curious to know where you guys are from too.

Well I hope so. :)

I think race/sex is more of a factor than geography.

MIT doesn't have domestic quotas

but they do look at how many ppl from your school were accepted in previous years, i heard

that data shows up on your E-3 card, but I don't know if they take it into consideration... :

Hmm, people accepted from my school: 0, haha. People applying? I think I am the only one. People accepted from a 50-mile radius? Most likely 0 also. Although, my uncle did put down that he was from my town when he got accepted into graduate school at MIT (PhD in 1996).

I'm in your shoes too. zero, zero, zero. 100-mile radius? zero... probably. :)

Awesome! Where are you from LSA?

No one from my school in recent years... my state? Yea, I'd think so. ;)

Well if I am corrent one person ever got into MIT from my school, and that was two years ago. Three kids including me are going EA and prbably like one more is going regular. I live in NJ, so there are lots of schools in any radius and I can't speak for them...

A crusty town of 50,000 people (half retired) in western Arizona. :)

Now that I think about it, how many people in MIT are from Oklahoma in the first place??

From the Registrar's office:

LSA, I know what you're talking about. I live in a town with about 50,000 too (that's with an air force base next door).

Thanks! LSA, I'm actually surprised at the number.

Yea, me too... not as many from CT as I would have thought...

I was surprised by the number in my state, too, but then I figured there are some prep schools in Phoenix that probably send some folks every year.

Wow, NJ is about 6th(my eyes are tired and I need to find my calculator to add :P). I figured the numbers would be high, but I did not know this high.

My state's numbers are all messed up (i.e, not as low as I'd like!) because of all the crazy prep schools in Chicago like Libertyville and New Trier. Bah.
