geography degree

What can one do with a degree in Geography? I am interested in majoring in this, but I am not sure what kind of work one would go into with this degree.

Most geography majors go into GIS these days. For those who don't know, GIS (Geographical information systems) is a field that is in high demand. It is a technical field where you would most likely be working on computers, manipulating databases, and creating maps.

I held a high-paying (to me) GIS-related internship as an undergraduate with only an introductory class in GIS.

You can learn more about careers in GIS at: http://www.gis.com/careers/geospatial_career.html

Also, as an interesting anecdote for the day (not sure how true it is)...the geography department at UNC claims the average income of people with their bachelor's in geography from the department is approx. 250k (Michael Jordan was a geography major ;)).

Does anyone here know how competitive the Geography program at Berkeley is?

Does anyone know what schools are renowned for geography? Asking on behalf of a friend. Thanks.

for great geography info go to http://geography.about.com/od/careersingeography/index.htm and www.aag.org

University of Washington, University of British Columbia, UChicago, UMiami, and several CA schools (UCLA, UCB, UCSD, UCSC) all have great programs. If you're smart, you'll go to UW, where you'll find me.
