<p>ctmom- Is this the National Geographic Society run national bee? My son was a three time state finalist, his best showing was third in state. It was a pleasure to see the finals the three years he made it. The kids were fantastic, and each one could easily have won, just the luck of which question they drew. </p>
<p>The first place winner the year my son placed third went on to win the national championship the following year.</p>

<p>I was in a Geography Bee in 6th grade for my Middle School; finished 3rd. The high schools I've attended haven't had a Geo Bee tho.</p>

<p>There was an intro to the Amazing Race on the front page of the Tempo section of the Chicago Tribune today, and of the 10 or 12 pairs, only 2 knew Ottawa was the capital of Canada, hmm that's pretty sad.</p>
