Geography in Admission?

Hey all,

I was just wondering how big a role geography plays into acceptance into those top-tier institutions. For example, how would coming from WA help in the application process versus say, New York or the East Coast or even California?

Thanks!

Coming from under-represented states helps a lot.

IE, deep south and other underdeveloped/remote areas.

Microsoft has made WA a well represented place at lots of top schools. It would help at LACs in the South and MW and other places that see few applicants from there.

Ah, okay.

Thanks a lot everyone! hmom5 and noobcake being super helpful as always!

So, you mean applying to colleges like Emory and Wash U would help out in the admissions process yes?

Probably, but you can look it up, most schools publish percent by state. WashU does so much marketing they probably get apps from Oz.
