Did any of you hear about this...due to the recession Georgia Students have lost assured scholarships.

These are scholarships that were guaranteed for all four years and almost $1000 a year that were cut due to the recession. I mean I understand cutting the program...but taking away scholarships that were already awarded and may have influenced students' college decisions?!

Learn now that the scariest words you will hear in your life are “I’m from the government, and I’m here to help.”

$1000 a year is unlikely to influence anyone’s decisions.

Is Georgia still giving the Hope Scholarship? If so, I imagine they are trying to keep this program fully funded - cuts to it would most likely affect more students in a more drastic way.

I know every penny counts. Hopefully, some of the schools will have Obama stimulus money set aside to help students who lost this scholarship. My school has been able to help a lot of students with the stimulus money this year.

The Scholarship funds that have been withdrawn are the Governors scholarship-which awards an ADDITIONAL 1000 dollars to academically qualified students who are already Hope Scholarship recipients. For the students we know who have received this award, the funds have been used to cover additional living expenses or many times, study-away expenses. Kelsmom is right, every penny matters these days, but the Georgia Hope Scholarship continues to be a significant source of funding for a number of high school graduates in our state each year.
