Geological Oceanography

Do you guys think that geological oceanography is a good choice as far as employment goes?

I'm especially interested in marine sediments and anthropogenic pollutants that accumulate in the ocean depths.

no, not compared to nursing or engineering. but there are jobs available, I believe oil companies often hire students to plot out the subsea for drilling. maybe think of taking some geology or geophysics courses. those two areas are more employable. for the fact that most of the work is done on land. however it sounds like your into research. then I dont see why you can’t major in that and then go to grad school to further your research in that area.

I’m in a very closely related field and agree with the above post. Aside from a handful of people who got jobs with USGS or NOAA, most marine geologists I’ve known went into academia. (These were PhDs, not BS grads.)

If you’re an undergrad, you’re much better off majoring in geology and specializing in grad school. A broad undergrad education in geology can lead to environmental science, paleontology, oceanography, meteorology, seismology…etc. No need to limit yourself yet.
