I am a senior geology major at Texas A&M. I have applied to MS Geology programs at Texas A&M, LSU, University of Kansas, and University of Arkansas. I am interested in petroleum geology research, specifically stratigraphy. I know A&M has a good program, what about the rest of them as far as getting an oil exploration job? I was accepted to Kansas last week and I would really like to know if oil companies hire many of KU's MS students.

During my brief foray into oil, I mostly saw folks from UT, Texas A&M, LSU, Colorado School of Mines, a smattering of Oklahoma and Penn State folks… those are sort of the big ones. Not to say you can’t get picked up by an oil company from anywhere else, but those are probably the biggest recruiting targets (and coming from UT, the recruiting season is…nuts). Kansas is doable, but you may have to reach out a little more.
