I have already taken algebra I and II and college statistics. I now have the option of geometry or trigonometry. I need to get to Calculus II for my major. If I take geometry I will still have to take trig next in summer before I could enroll in pre-cal.

So the options are:
1) geometry > trigonometry > business/science calculus I > business/science calculus II
-or-
2) trigonometry > pre-cal > calculus I > calculus II

Ideally, I would like to go right into trig so that I can take full on calculus and be able to apply to UCLA also but I'm not sure if that's a good idea because I've never had any type of geometry based class. I'm a smart kid and math has always come easy to me. Also, these are really my only two options, the 2013-2014 school year will already be my third year at CC so I'm going to defiantly be applying this next go around.

Would I be shooting myself in the foot by not taking geometry first?

I would go straight on to trig, but don’t underestimate more advanced classes based on your experience in basic algebra. Mathematics gets much more challenging and conceptual as you go on to Calculus.

At my school you have to take geo to take trig. You’re going to make your time a lot harder by not taking the prerequisite. If you have the time, take geo. If not, then take your chances I guess.

At my CCC If you get an A in college algebra and an A or B in trig students can skip precalc. I don’t even know if my school offers geometry, lol.

Okay so i’m getting the general consensus to be to just opt for trig. So for you guys that have taken trig do you feel that I would be at a HUGE disadvantage by not taking geometry first? I understand that there will be some concepts that come up that, that I will have to work extra on but essentially I should be okay?

Uh, know your basics. Pythagorean theorem, area of a triangle/circle/trapezoid, things like that might come up, later on you might work with spheres or cones or something, but no one memorizes those. You can probably just look up most of that as it appears in class. :P

If you’re good with math, you should be fine. Geometry, at least when I had it, was triangles, angles, circles, and basic proofs… you won’t use circles much and they won’t expect you to know any of the random/obscure theorems unless they’ve covered it in the trig class.

Too funny, that’s quite a distance to hit ALL of the schools. I’ve been on here for over a year and I always wondered if there was anybody else from City.

I have graduated from Sac City last year and transferred to Berkeley. Sac City requires geometry before trigonometry, unless you have taken geometry in high school. I hope that helps, Good Luck!
