Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected:
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected:

General Comments: Got a 12k (3,000 a year ) scholarship. Tbh, I was kind of expecting more. This might be an ominous sign for UVA :-S

[asize=4][acolor=#008000]Decision: Accepted

Objective:

SAT I (breakdown): 1460/2250
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.0 UW, 4.4 W
IB (place score in parenthesis):diploma candidate
Senior Year Course Load: very rigorous, 7 advanced classes
Awards: 4 pretty good regional awards, 1 awesome school award, and 1 average school award.

Subjective:

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): student government, 2 good summer programs, and 3 honor societies and 2 clubs with leadership positions in 3 of them.
Volunteer/Community service: 1 ongoing activity and 1 big service project, probably 150 hours total on my app.
Essays (rating 1-10, details): 7/10
Recommendations (rating 1-10, details): waived right, but assuming 9/10? She wrote a recommendation for me for a scholarship last year that I ended up getting, so I’m assuming her rec is good.
Counselor Rec: No idea. She loves me but it seems like she’d write generic recommendations because she’s so busy.

Other

Intended Major: govt/international relations
State (if domestic applicant): VA!
School Type: pretty bad public school, but bad for being in a rich county, not bad for the rest of the US.
Gender: female

Reflection

Strengths:scores, GPA, ECs, awards, service, recommendations
Weaknesses: literally nothing!
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: let’s be realistic for a second, why wouldn’t they accept me? lol no, I’m kidding, but honestly I would be ridiculous not to expect an acceptance. I wish I had this much optimism for the rest of my schools lol. I love mason though and am very excited about my acceptance!
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: accepted to another safety so nothing too exciting yet.

General Comments: a lot of kids have come on CC in past years and posted rejections/waitlists/deferrals despite having 2000+ SAT and high GPAs. I’m 99% convinced that these people had something severely wrong with their application. Mason is not as random as some CC people make it out to be, so don’t worry about your admission. I was so convinced that I would get a deferral because Mason thought I wouldn’t choose them anyways, but this was totally wrong.

Reflection

Strengths: Activities, essays
Weaknesses: Recs?
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Because I am dedicated to my studies.
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: Arcadia (accepted), Fordham (deferred)

I applied early action. However, I did not receive a decision. I emailed GMU and they said that through a random process some applications are flagged to see if correct decision was made before they send it out and the remaining decisions will go out within a week for EA. That does not sound encouraging although I have received acceptances from some other colleges that had higher ave GPA/SAT scores then GMU did so should be interesting.

@32soc15 Yes your son has a decent chance still, esp if his mid year grades show his grades are at least as good as his prior GPA or even improved.
