Hey guys,

I am currently a high school senior, and I just received the GWC scholarship at Iowa State! I am so excited but I was just curious to see who else received it. So, post if you have!

My son was a recipient. He graduated with honors last Spring from ISU and went on to grad school. Congrats and good luck to you.

Thank you very much!! Did your son enjoy his experience as a GWC scholar?

Yes, he enjoyed GWC and his ISU experience. GWC is only the beginning. Lots of opportunities available. He took advantage of the big career fairs held in the Fall/Spring, and lined-up internships for the summer. Also he got involved with clubs/organizations related to his major and held a few leadership roles. He quickly learned the more he networked, more opportunities came his way.

I also received the GWC Scholarship! Do any of you know the criteria for it? I was a little surprised when I got it but was extremely happy nonetheless

I got the GWC scholarship too! What are your guys’ stats? I had 32 ACT and 3.91 UW/5.00 W GPA. Online it says the criteria to be considered was 3.5+ GPA and 24 ACT which seems a little low.
To be frank I lucked out big time. I got a 25 on the ACT and a 3.95 W GPA. Then again I had a extremely strong essay and my clubs and activities possibly helped.
That’s awesome you guys received it as well! On my ACT I got a 26 and I have a 4.3 unweighted GPA. Do you guys plan on attending Iowa State? Also, are you guys from Iowa?
Actually I meant to say my GPA is weighted
I very much so plan on attending. A full ride and a very highly regarded (although not elite) computer engineering program? Yes please
@jasper60103 - did your son also participate in the honors college? Since there are some compulsory activities to maintain the GWC scholarship, I was wondering if the activities were compatible.
Yes, he was in the honors program. And yes, the extra activities for maintaining Carver as well as his research counted towards additional course work. So it really wasn’t a stretch for him to do honors.
Is it based on weighted or unweighted GPA ?
