George Washington or UVA for International Relations [undergraduate]

I have been accepted into GWU for the Elliot School of Int. Affairs and UVA Arts & Sciences. I’ve been accepted into GWU Honors Program and would likely major in international relations w/ concentration in international economics. If I attend UVA I would likely double major in Econ w/ concentration in either international economics or public policy and Foreign Affairs.

I know UVA is the better school all-around by far, but GW is certainly very strong in the field I want to study especially for the internship and networking opportunities. I do plan to attend grad school.

I’d like to get some third-party opinions on these schools and whether the prestige and reputation of UVA outshine the location and political niche of GWU.

*sidenote: I’m out-of-state for UVA and have received scholarship for GWU so I would be attending either for approx. the same cost, slightly less for GWU actually.

the biggest advantage of GW is that you can do an internship in DC while attending classes during fall/spring. But what it really boils down to is which school you prefer. Do you want to attend a school that is a “city school”. verus more of a traditional college/college town. the vibe of each school is very different. and the prestige and ranking as well. have you visited both schools, or plan on attending the accepted students days.
