Here to calm some nerves. My dtr is a current freshman, whose stats were very good. She did not receive a likely letter last year, but she did receive a generous scholarship (we do not qualify for FA). Best wishes to all of you!
@premature_gray Do you mind if I ask which Scholarship and how much? And stats? Thanks!
I made a promise to not post her stats (sorry). She received a 25k presidential, which took our costs into the state U range. Her HS classmate, who is also a freshman, qualified for FA, and received a strong package.
@premature_gray Thank you for posting this. I think that when students post their decision stats they should include whether or not they received a “likely” letter. For the sake of future students who did not receive one (like my daughter who is in the midst of IB exam studies) it would be very nice to see the stats on student who were accepted/didn’t receive a “likely” letter.
Did anyone in Massachusetts receive a likely letter yet?
@freimary I think at this point all the likely letters will have been sent out and received. However, don’t be concerned if you didn’t get one. They only go out to a very small proportion of accepted students.
@freimary I got one (a week or so ago now I think) and I’m from MA.
Does anyone have a date for when RD decision letters will be sent out? And also, will they be available on the activity center/portal?
@briggs23 At this point, no one knows for sure when decisions will be released. Probably sometime next week. Decisions will be on the portal first. In the past, Admissions has emailed applicants 1 hour before decisions are posted telling them to expect a decision.
Thanks so much!! @anothermuggle
We are anxiously awaiting the GW decision. My D is a strong candidate (we hope!) but we did not get a Likely Letter. We live in Georgia. TBH, this is the first we ever heard of this! But we are also learning about “the Tufts Syndrome”. I am regretting sending in the FAFSA because I have been told that all schools can see where else you applied? This is such a mind game and so hard for 17/18 year olds to go through!!
@silveroakmom beginning this year, schools cannot see where a student has applied via FAFSA.
@SilverOakMom I agree. The only reason I sent the FAFSA is because the parent must be denied FA to be considered for the parent plus loan. I’d rather have the option for the PPL and not go that route rather than not have the option.
Do you think a 30 ACT, 4.0 GPA, 5/350 class rank (top 1%), 4 years of 2 varsity sports, lots of AP’s, student govt, and tons of extra curricular and service/mentoring involvement will have what it takes to get accepted?
@briggs23 Those are great stats! Now comes the EFC factor (how much can you pay). The possibility of someone with lower stats getting selected because they can pay more is very likely. Makes my stomach hurt :((
I know I’ve been super frustrated throughout this whole process because of that. It stinks – I feel like my hard work won’t matter in the end. But Thank you so much for the insight!! @HappyFace2018
GW isn’t need-blind? I don’t qualify for FA so doesn’t really affect me but that’s interesting
@matildak6 No, they has some controversy in 2013 when the GWHatchet interviewed the dean of admissions and she inferred that the school was more “need aware” instead of “need blind”. Well that set off a firestorm.
Hi guys!! I got a likely letter two weeks ago from GW. I can’t wait to get to know you all during this process
DD received a LL-postcard. Her GPA- 4.87w. 6 APs good ECs 4 yr varsity sports. Did not submit any Scores.
