George Washington U Acceptances/Rejections?

They just put them up on the web a few minutes ago.

Accepted with 3.5uw (@ competitive HS), 2100+, and few ECs. :) Most likely where I will be headed in the fall.

I just got accepted

3.58 UW, 1760 SAT, 26 ACT, no ECs (Had an awesome essay explaining why)

Pending Georgetown, I most likely will be going to GWU. Or American. Depends on what college feels more comfortable to me when I go back to DC this April to check things out.

yay accepted!
3.1 W, noncompetitive high school, 30 ACT, tons of EC's. If I don't get into BU I'll be going there.

Waitlisted

32 ACT
4.0 UW

^ Oh man that sucks...I heard they seem to be waitlisting their best applicants this year with some crazed case of tuft syndrome...I feel bad too cause I have about the same stats [3.9 GPA 2260 SAT] and i want to get into the honors college!

my friend was waitlisted too
theres been quite a few so far eh?

How much interest did those who were waitlisted show?

I had an interview with a rep at my school and visited the campus.

i didnt have an interview but i visited. i twas prob because originally i was rejected from their BA/MD program but i still wanted to be considered for their regular admission .they prob. just thought i wouldnt go. also on that question where it said what other school are you applying to on app) i had some ivies, and other top schools. i guess they felt like a safety .. which they kinda were..so yea haha

:)accepted
I m an international student
sat 2000+

Rejected

SAT: 2090 (M:710, CR:650, W:730)
SAT II: Math I: 760, Lit: 690
GPA: 3.25 UW, 3.75W
ECs: Soccer, Track, Italian Club, Jew Stuff

This was very surprising, I'm coming from an incredibly competitive high school in Massachusetts.

I was accepted but I didn't visit or interview or show any sort of additional interest (except for sending in my complete application). My Why GW essay was pretty convincing though, if I can say so myself :P. Plus, they might've gone for the whole "regional diversity" thing, being from AK. I'm shocked that quite a few have been waitlisted with those excellent stats!

I was accepted with a 3.8w. I never had an interview or a formal tour of the school or anything. My friend was rejected and had toured the school.

I was waitlisted

2220 SAT (combined)
3.93 UW, 4.3 W
Eagle Scout
President of Debate Team

Accepted at UChicago. Kind of makes no sense, haha

the stats i'm reading here make no sense at all! what's going on?

happycollegemom, I'm thinking exactly the same. Honestly, when I saw my decision, I started laughing, because it is just so absurd

No idea how much weight they put on it but during the info session while I was visiting they talked a lot about personalizing the "Why GW?" essay. Apparently they feel like they get a lot of recycled stuff from other schools and are unhappy about it.

I felt my essay was uniquely tailored toward GW and the whole D.C. scene. End result...weightlisted. I dont want to say George Washington is very guilty of Tufts syndrome.......but honestly ***. Seeing as it is my #2 choice, and not a "safety", i may want to appeal.

yeah, i got waitlisted too. it's definitely pretty embarrassing... but i can't complain since it was my last choice school to which i applied, added as a last-minute safety. don't i just feel soo safe now? haha

I think that GW has a really bad case of Tufts syndrome. My child was accepted at U of Chicago, Johns Hopkins and the Honors College of our State University with a ton of merit aid offered, but was waitlisted at GW. Many students in her class, with far lower grades and boards and less ECs were admitted. I have seen this happening for several years.

If you carefully check the stats of accepted students on the GW board, you will notice that numerous students with 2250+ SATs and 3.8+ SATs were accepteed. So the results can't just be explained by "Tufts Syndrome." GW does a very careful, "holistic" admissions assessment. Other variables such as maturity, independence, self-direction as well as plans to utilize the unique resources of a city school such as GW are taken into account. GW's atmosphere is very different from the traditional campus environment and is a good fit for a certain type of student. This is taken into account in the admissions process.
