George Washington Univ.

It depends on what you are looking for. You may jsut be looking to get $20,000 in scholarships and your parents are willing to pick up the other $30,00 if this fits your needs then all's good

However if you are going to need a lot of financial aid or looking for close to a free ride it is very unlikely that you are going to get it.

From GWU's own common Data set:

http://www.gwu.edu/~ire/financial_aid.htm

For the admitted class of 2008 consisting of 2260 full time freshmen:

[ul]
Number of students in line a who applied for need-based financial aid 1404

Number of students in line b who were determined to have financial need 913

Number of students in line c who were awarded any financial aid 902

Number of students in line d who were awarded any need-based scholarship or grant aid 878

Number of students in line d who were awarded any need-based self-help aid 784

Number of students in line d who were awarded any non-need-based scholarship or grant aid 261

Number of students in line d whose need was fully met (exclude PLUS loans, unsubsidized loans, and private alternative loans) 737

Average need-based scholarship and grant award $15,823

[/ul]

From their own financial aid website:

http://gwired.gwu.edu/adm/financial/freshman.html

GW considers qualified students for a variety of scholarships.**approximately 23 percent of freshmen receive merit based financial assistance. **

No the math, 77% of the students **do not ** recieve merit based FA so the odds are not with you as the applicant pool changes each year. If you apply during a year where the pool is exceptionally strong, studnts with higher grades, states or who better fulfill the school's institutional mission will knock you out of the box

GWU also states:

Even though you may meet the qualifications for several scholarships, **only one can be accepted **

their top scholarship:

Presidential Academic Scholarships

Students with outstanding academic credentials are automatically considered for our Presidential Academic Scholarships. In addition, selected Finalists in the National Merit and National Achievement programs and Scholars in the National Hispanic Program are considered for these scholarships.

Since this award tops out at $20,000 and you cannot combine it with any other merit money from GWU, you are the one in the best position to know if it will be enough for you. Personally I think that your SAT scores may be a little low as far as making you eligible for this scholarship but that is not to say tht you will not get any financial aid from the school.

If you are truly a hooked applicant (URM, athlete, legacy developmental admit) you might be better off tossing your hat at Georgetown and getting more $
