While GWU is known for Poli-Sci and Law, the Business School is phenomenal! I entered GWU in the Colombia College of Arts and Sciences (with the intent to be Pre-Med) and HATED it. Junior year I switched into the Business School and cannot even begin to explain to you how amazing it was: the faculty, the projects, the amount I learned in such a quick period of time, the practical application of knowledge, and the career services center. I would HIGHLY recommend GWU to anyone interested in business!!! (I also attended business courses at 4 other highly renowned universities within the same time frame as I was receiving my degree from GWU and it’s impossible to even compare them on any level!)

Isn’t it time to retire this thread as most posts are over 3 years old? How relevant is the info from 3 years ago?

I’ve been told that GWU is ranked lower because they have a larger percentage of “part time faculty.” U.S. News considers this to be a negative. On the other hand GW likes to point out that many of these part time instructors also work at the State Department, CIA and many other government agencies. They bring real world experience into the classroom and are therefore, an asset rather than a liability.

Look, a lot of you in here don’t really seem to know what your talking about. Idk where your getting these ideas about GWU.

I know a bunch of GWU grads. Most of them said the PoliSci was top notch (as it is) and most other things were slightly lacking. Of course GWU gets crapped on in the rankings a little because of part time faculty, the spread out campus, low alumni donors, etc. But does that stuff really matter? I know someone who chose GWU over Georgetown, UChicago, Case Western and WashU. Why? PoliSci, DC Connections, but most of all, their top rated (I dont think this category is yet ranked in most rankings) Computer Security Program. This person was able to graduate in 4 years with a masters and now has very high level security clearance with the government (4 years later) and is doing just fine job/money wise.

Its a wonder to me why places like U.C.-(Not that great of a school) are ranked high than GWU, but the rankings aren’t necissarily based on the value or education. Keep that in mind. GWU is right up there with Georgetown and the Ivies in PoliSci/IR/Related subjects and has one of, if not the best Computer/Network Security programs, but, from what Ive heard from grads, it is lacking in a few areas. Not to mention its one of the most expensive U’s in the country.

Agree with you, but you realize this thread is over 2 years old!

Time to retire this one. Start a new post if necessary.

CJ

Another years-old thread resurrected by a member with one post. Why?

Honestly, Georgetown is resource/research deficient and is rightly ranked in the mid-to upper 20’s, but that’s not to say it is an inferior school, because it is a top flight institution. American is far behind GW in many regards. GW is more aptly ranked in the mid to upper 30’s in terms of national universities. High marks and school name recognition are basically all that matters in terms of landing your first job. American doesn’t have any sort of rep outside of DC. Georgetown certainly does and to a lesser degree, GW does.

Thanks for resurrecting a six year old thread.

What’s wrong with resurrecting a thread? I found this discussion to be pretty interesting.

It’s old. Expired. No longer accurate/relevant. Do you have a 2006 iPhone?

I guess , for historical purposes, it may be interesting. But not relevant now.

The IR rankings that they’re talking about haven’t changed, nor have the individual advantages that GW offers over the other schools.

All this information was relevant to me. To be so myopic as to immediately dismiss something that’s a couple years old as outdated…that’s kind of sad.

7 years. And if that observation makes you feel sad, well…

Before anyone comments on GWU being a one-dimensional school, Google the following: George Washington medical school 3.1% acceptance rate.

Also, I presume GW’s med school accepts a number of its undergrads majoring in science and engineering from its own GW science and engineering departments. With its 3.1 % acceptance rate (2nd lowest, behind only the Mayo Medical School with a 2.2% acceptance rate), their undergrads must have something to show for I would think.

To those deciding whether to accept GW’s offer for a spot in its Class of 2016, you should be very proud, and congratulations.

You may want to also Google the following: “campus overload class of 2010 acceptance rate”- it is a couple of years outdated, but I think it is still ok.

bump…

Prepurm, what’s your reason for posting this? It looks like you’ve chosen BC, and I am always wondering why random people show up here to dis GW. So… …rejected, when you probably (wrongly) thought it was a safety?
