@princesstransfer I was trying SO hard not to get excited so that I wouldn’t be that obsessive email checker…but here I am refreshing my email and this thread (literally for the last 15 mins). Help me
@Brifes as far as I know, they’ll always send out the decisions in the early evening. And as for your question about the ranking of your previous institution, it’s kind of a chicken-egg question; if you got into an Ivy on the first go-round then you probably have a strong application to begin with. That said, I feel safe in saying that the better of an institution you’re at, the more lenient they’ll be with GPA-type stuff; it stands to reason that a 3.5 at someplace like UPenn is worth more than/as much as a 3.7 at a California CC.
Same here! @princesstransfer @Brifes
@Brifes same!!! not sure how much finals studying is going to get done now, i am certain no one else will be hearing back tonight as it is too late but now any day could be the day… i want to know more details about the people who got their letters today
@princesstransfer @rendezvous torture! We’re all on this together…
Just as an update since there were some questions. I’m not an international student, I go to a UC school. Also, I didn’t request an early decision or anything special. Also, i’m transferring into my junior year, not sure if that really means anything or not.
Oh, also I submitted my application relatively early. I worked on all of my transfer applications over the summer and submitted them in late November
@xnsch787 are you definitely going to georgetown? or are you considering other places?
@princesstransfer I haven’t decided yet. I only applied to two places, Columbia and Georgetown. I’m still waiting to hear back from Columbia which is my first choice because of their Economics-Political Science joint major program (I’m currently double-majoring in Political Science and Economics at UCLA). I also want to wait and see what my credit evaluation from Georgetown is to make sure I can continue doing both Political Science and Economics and come out with both degrees at the end of my four years. So we’ll see, but I’m definitely stoked I got into Georgetown and I would absolutely love to go. Their programs seem incredible and their focus on public policy and government (which absolutely doesn’t exist at UCLA) is a huge draw for me since I want to work in that field
do we think any more will come out this week? or wait until next week? doesn’t seem like there were too many acceptances today if only one person on here got a letter
Wondering, are any of you applying for transfer at SFS? Do you think the admissions decisions are based on which school you applied to specifically? If so who else applied to SFS?
I’m currently active duty military and applying for transfer to SFS, fluent in Arabic, and have maintained a 4.0 college GPA through part-time school while I’ve been in. Georgetown is my first choice, and I’m pretty nervous about it!
@aquapinch7 sounds like you have a great application! i am still unsure about how many letters were released yesterday
Has anyone heard from McDonough?
@xnsch787 Congratulations :)! What were your stats if you don’t mind talking about them?
I just called and they said that they only send out decisions by snail mail.
@Southerngent that is not true, if you look back on the threads from the last two years people received emails and then letters in the mail later on
@princesstransfer then I was lied to… Why Georgetown? Why did you lie?
@Southerngent mind control is their favorite past time
@April16 Yeah, sure i’m happy to answer any questions. Not sure exactly what you’re looking for, but I’m currently a second-year Political Science and Economics double-major at UCLA. I’ve got a 4.0 GPA with quite a few A+’s as well and have been published twice in the UCLA Undergraduate Law Journal. I also have worked a few times over the summer in volunteering for congressional campaigns as well as in the district office of my congressman at home who wrote me a recommendation. I plan on working in policy so I’m sure my experience there as well as writing for the law journal helped.
As far as anything else… I also had a 4.0 (unweighted, I think it was something like 4.8 something weighted) in high school and got a 2150 on the SAT, so not too spectacular.
Hi everybody!
Please, please, please provide me with your constructive feedback - I am in serious need of some sympathy (good or bad) so I can focus on finals and power through the end of the semester. I am hoping to transfer to MSB (Finance) as a rising Sophomore from prominent, private institution in Indiana (Not Notre Dame). Here are my stats:
H.S. GPA: 4.0/4.0 (unweighted), 4.04/4.0 (weighted)
H.S. Class Rank: 1/423 (unweighted), 59/423 (weighted)
1 Honors Course
0 AP (H.S. did offer AP)
0 IB (H.S. did NOT offer IB)
Public H.S. (suburb of Chicago)
ACT: 30
SAT/SAT II: Did not take
College GPA: 3.8/4.0 - Honors Program
Completed 17 credits first semester, 15 additional credits 2nd semester
Worked multiple jobs during H.S. and two in College: Customer service at shipping store, taught tennis at private country club, admin. assistant in internship office, National Science Foundation Internship.
Membership in 8 different clubs and organizations, exec positions in two: Student Foundation, Student Government, Professional business fraternity, Professional Service Fraternity, Alternative Break Program (Finance Chair), Advancement of Business Leadership, Club Tennis, Student Honors Program Council (Philanthropic Chair)
Other major highlights: Wrote full 25 pg. business plan freshman year, international internship teaching tennis in Switzerland and MVP, 2-time state qualifier for tennis in H.S. NHS Co-pres. H.S. also.
Essays: Personal one about the affects of my best friend getting pregnant. Business essay about tying business with love for service and philanthropy. Submitted additional essay about family’s bleak financial situation (I have paid my way through college, not my parents).
Recs: Nothing out of the ordinary (one from speech professor, business dean (don’t know him very well) and H.S. guidance counselor who is so-so.
I am in the 2nd largest city in the Midwest (hint-hint) and I did NOT get an interview. WHAT?! I submitted my app. in December too! Not good…
Both parents went to college, grew up in a rather wealthy suburb of Chicago.
Male, Asian - No hooks (expect that I am not filthy rich).
I have invested WAY too much emotional energy in Georgetown and am terrified I will be rejected. Got killed in freshman admission to higher-tier schools (Not GU). I didn’t get to explain the explicit reasons I want to attend GU (I really want to be in DC, work in gov’t and help fix the public school system). Terrified I am too rounded with no real unique facet of my app.
What do you guys think? PLEASE give me your reactions good or bad. I need some feedback to keep my sanity!
Thanks!
