Georgetown 2015 Fall Transfer Thread

@1404067 Hey! So, at first glance, it looks like your biggest weakness if the lack of rigor in your high school curriculum ie. limited Honors and no AP. With that said, high school GPA is already less “important” in transfer admissions, and the fact that you have a great college GPA shows that you can handle college level work (which is basically what APs are used to demonstrate). ACTs are fine - probably won’t be too much of a hindrance; they may not help you, but they probably won’t hurt you. I know you said you thought you were too “round,” but 1) you’re not necessarilly supposed to be focused on one thing as early as high school and 2) your ECs are cool and unique (Swiss internship to teach tennis? NSF internship? Awesome!) There’s just really no telling with these things. Fingers crossed for you!

@Brifes Thanks so much for the feedback and support - I really, really appreciate it!

Just a small token for the group: good luck to everyone seeking transfer admission to GU. I read through this thread and was blown away at everyone’s accomplishments. I’m honestly just humbled to be in an applicant pool this strong. Looking at the acceptance rate against everyone else’s stats, my chances certainly aren’t good, but I going to keep an open mind. While I would be personally thrilled to join the ranks of those at GU, I know there are tons of awesome individuals at a range of schools across the country. Just because you aren’t at a name brand doesn’t mean you won’t be successful in your personal endeavors. Just keep believing in yourself - that’s what I have to tell myself day in and day out. Hope everyone has a strong finish to their semester!

Thanks everybody - you all are awesome.

Being chanced would be GREATLY appreciated

@Lionstransfer3 are you applying to UVA too?

@Lionstransfer3 To answer your question, I think your chances are great! What school did you apply to?

Also the upward trend in your GPA is a good sign.

@April16 Hahaha yeah I am!! I applied to the business school since i assumed the political science major is popular and probably harder to get into. (regretting that decision for UVA tho ahhaha)

I applied to (in order of desire to go):
Vanderbilt
Georgetown
UVA
Duke
UNC
Wake Forest!

Where did you apply?

@Lionstransfer3

I applied to
UVA
Georgetown
W & M
NYU

And that makes sense! Good luck

when do people think the next batch of letters will come out? sometime mid next week?

The sooner the better to minimize the amount of finals I will fail on account of ANXIETY

@Brifes when do you finish up finals? i have work until next friday urghh

@princesstransfer last final is Thursday, then a 10-day volunteer trip and I’m home! (To wait out the torture…)

@Brifes will you have access to your email during the volunteer trip? i couldn’t survive otherwise!

@princesstransfer Yes, thank goodness! And I have my mom monitoring the mail just in case. When are you done with exams?

@Brifes I am done with exams next thursday, so much stress in combination of exams and waiting for my letter

is anyone waiting to hear back from other schools too?

I only applied to GU. Not sure how great of a move that was, but I honestly didn’t want to go anywhere else. We’ll see - I’m really nervous…

@1404067 do you plan on staying at your current institution if you don’t get in?

@princesstransfer Yes. I certainly don’t hate my experience now, but I would absolutely love to attend Georgetown. Not to be super cheesy, but GU would be much more “inspirational” and exciting than the institution I’m currently attending. Plus a lot more opportunities, especially in DC. How about you?

@1404067 same here! georgetown was my first choice and i didn’t get in so i wanted to give it another shot

@princesstransfer Awesome! I have to say I give everyone a lot of credit for trying a 2nd time. Freshman admissions was stressful in the first place and going through the whole process again isn’t exactly fun. I’m hoping for you!

Question for the group: What excites you most about GU and what do you hope to accomplish in the next year?

Just thought it would be fun to start a little discussion
