Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):
Teacher Rec #1: 9/10- Lit teacher, one of the only ones I know very well, explained GPA and other scores well
Teacher Rec #2: 9/10- Golf coach and Gov teacher. Known him for year’s outside of school, watched me grow up.
Counselor Rec: 7/10- She is new this year, our school would not let me contact my old guidance counselor for reccomendation. Old one helped me through my issues and knew all about me. This one just recited my resume.
Additional Rec: 10/10- Sailor at my yacht club, who I have known for years before I ever became interested in Georgetown is a tenured professor. Not my major area, but it is what I think may have helped.
Interview: 10/10- Turns out he is best friends with my sailing mentor, I have called him several times since our interview and we have written a couple letters. What he proposed as a 1/2 hour interview turned into a two hour long interview. Bonus, he sails, but not very well or very often so we connected over that.

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted: No Idea, I am very, very glad I was though. By far my #1 Choice.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted: Haven’t heard back from anywhere else yet.
General comments:
I have always been the kid who know’s what is going on, but has been limited in terms of GPA. If you are one of the endless people on this forum that has a 7.8 GPA on a 4 scale, relax, anything is possible. Your entire life will not be determined on being accepted or denied from this school or any school, you will be successful. Trust me. I believed in myself and have tried my hardest since breaking my barrier down, and it worked out just fine for me. Write good essays, have a good interview, and BE YOURSELF. Do not think that faking will help you in any way. Trust me, schools will see if you are being honest. I never hid the fact that I have one of the most atrocious GPA’s, I was upfront, explained it and was honest about my life.

Summer Activities: I did an exchange program in France last summer, and worked at the ice cream store the past two summers
Essays (rating 1-10, details): I’ve always been told that I’m an excellent writer, and I spent many months crafting my essays for Georgetown. In the end, I wrote my activities one about Student Council, and would give it a 7/10. For my personal essay, I wrote about how I’ve eaten PB&J everyday since elementary school and how that helped shape one of my values, since it was pretty unique and I was told it was well-written, I’d give it a 7/10 as well. For my SFS essay, I wrote passionately about women’s rights violations in other countries and how grassroots organizations and the American government can work to solve the issues, because of the passion behind it and the organization and what not, I’d give it an 8/10.

Teacher Rec #2: My Genetics teacher, again I didn’t read it but I believe it was good because of how much I talked to her

Weaknesses: The interview was probably my weakest spot, I could’ve done better. He also asked what other schools I was applying to and I feel like sharing that information could’ve been problematic and could have unintentionally showed a lack of interest. I also forgot to send the alum a thank you note
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted: see above
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted: Haven’t heard from anywhere else yet
General comments:
I’m pretty sad I was deferred, Georgetown was my top choice and this is pretty tough to get as my first college decision.
I know they accept plenty of deferred people during RD, so I was wondering if someone could chance my likelihood for getting in in April? Also, how do I go about a letter of continued interest, and what kind of supplemental material can I submit?
Congrats to everyone accepted and good luck to those who have yet to receive their decision!!

extracurricular: wrote about working in a court, 7/10? didn’t think it was that unique
personal: 8/10 maybe? thought it might be too feminist
why georgetown: 10/10, i thought this was really good, I tried to write about unique parts of georgetown and what I’d bring to the school
Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):
Teacher Rec #1: 9/10, From my AP chem teacher that’s known me since sophomore year
Teacher Rec #2: Hopefully 9/10 ish? From my APUSH teacher that I TA for
Counselor Rec: 7-9/10? got the rec from my assistant principal that just came to our school in august so he doesn’t know me that well but he’s really nice and seems like he’d write something good!
Additional Rec: n/a
Interview: Started off kind of slow but at the end we really hit it off.

Reflection
Strengths: ECs showed a clear passion, my essays all tied together even though they were about different aspects of myself
Weaknesses: sat/sat IIs i was told weren’t good enough, and I didn’t have as many ECs as most people I know which I thought would hurt me- I wasn’t really “well rounded”, no big awards
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted: I have no idea I’m honestly shocked! I’m definitely unique compared to others at my stem focused school, but at Georgetown, there are a lot of people that want to study economics/public policy/etc. so I didn’t think I’d be unique in the applicant pool.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted: Haven’t heard back from anywhere yet but 99% sure I’ll be going to Georgetown anyways
General comments:
This was a long and hard road but I’m so excited it led to an acceptance. I had zero expectations for myself but it all worked out in the end! Keep your head up if you got deferred because you’re probably still an incredible candidate and will end up where you belong(: Go Hoyas!
Decision: Deferred

SAT II: 790 USH, 670 Biology-M

Teacher Rec #1 (rating 1-10, details): Spanish teacher for 3 years: 7/10 (it was good, but a little different)
Teacher Rec #2 (rating 1-10, details): Algebra 2/Pre Calc teacher: 9/10 (She seems to somehow think that I’m going to get into all the schools I applied to, so I’m guessing her rec was pretty good lol)

Reflections: I wasn’t really expecting to get in Early Action, so I’m not too upset. My friend who graduated from my high school a couple of years ago was waitlisted at Georgetown but goes to Harvard (and also got into MIT), so I guess the Georgetown admissions process can be a little unpredictable anyways. Hoping to get in RD!
Strengths: Decent scores (for my most recent SAT) and good grades. I’m also a pretty well-rounded applicant, which I really conveyed throughout my application. I’m also a Catholic, which could help.
Weaknesses: Not really any truly outstanding ECs or achievements, which you kind of need for schools like this. Also, my older test scores are kind of subpar for Georgetown. And maybe my interview was worse than I thought, but I don’t know.
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: For the reasons I listed in my weaknesses.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted- Fordham, Boston College (MCAS Honors Program!!)… No other deferrals, and no rejections

Essays (rating 1-10, details): I honestly thought they were going to be like a 6 or 7, seeing as I didn’t have anyone proof read them besides reading them aloud to my mom a few minutes after writing and before submitting
Recommendations (rating 1-10, details): I would think an 8-10 overall
Teacher Rec #1: not sure, but I think both of my teachers who wrote recs liked me! It helped that one came from my french teacher (for SFS)

Essays (rating 1-10, details): 8 or 9? I’m a very strong writer, and the teacher who helps students with their essays told my journalism teacher that my essays were the best that she saw. I put a lot of work into them
Recommendations (rating 1-10, details): our school doesn’t let us see the letters but…
Teacher Rec #1: APUSH teacher. We have a very close relationship, as during AP exam prep he met with my friends and I out of class every week to review for over a month. Last week, he asked me to meet with him after school and told me not to despair about the country and to stay committed to poly sci. For that, I think he would write me a very good letter.
Teacher Rec #2: Precalc/ Calc teacher. Though I’ve never received an A in his class, I’ve always worked hard and met with him to retake tests and quizzes. I thought he would make a testament to my work ethic.
Counselor Rec: I’ve formed a great relationship with my counselor. He’s helped me through many personal issues and knows that I have big goals, so I assume he would write a great letter.
Additional Rec: N/A
Interview: My interviewer and I talked for about an hour and we had a very natural conversation. He was very impressed with my resume and he said he wished the best for me.

Reflection

Weaknesses: stats. I wish they could be a bit higher!!!
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted: as aforementioned, my stats could definitely better. I perform well in school, except when it comes to math and science. I also think that I should’ve taken more SAT subject tests.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted: Accepted at the University of Minnesota
General comments: I knew this would be a long shot, so I’m not too upset! I’m hoping that they recognize my strengths in areas that I’m truly passionate about, such as newspaper, history, politics, literature, and leadership.

General comments:
I’ve spent a lot of time on this website and had nearly convinced myself that I would not get into Georgetown after comparing myself to the other applicants. Don’t think that you need ridiculously impressive extracurriculars or need to have alumni relations to get in. You can show some pretty extraordinary characteristics through the most ordinary things, so just show the admissions committee that you are passionate and driven when pursuing your interests

Essays (rating 1-10, details):
Generic Georgetown Essay: 9/10. Gave a narrative about how my personality has changed throughout my life and the factors that have changed it. I tied it all together with what I could bring to Georgetown with the place that I’m at in my life right now in terms of my personality.
Activities Essay: 10/10. I honestly loved this essay and I think it’s a main reason as to why I got in. I talked about how all my life I’ve always loved sports but never been that good at them. But nevertheless I always worked my ass off but was just mediocre. Then I joined debate with that same work ethic and I was able to see tangible results and how special that was to me. It was a super personal essay that I was really present in. Not an exciting summary, but it was an essay really close to my heart.
Business school essay: 10/10 Wrote about the Commonwealth principle in our country, and how business is effective in upholding it. Talked about how combining my Catholic background to Georgetown’s education would allow me to become an ethical business leader. Solid essay for a not so solid prompt.
Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):
Teacher Rec #1: Pre-Calc Teacher: 9/10 I was a little quiet in this class, but the teacher loved me. She is known as that teacher at our school that wrecks everyones 4.0, and I was able to pull a really high A in her class, which was what made me ask her for a letter. I also hear she writes really good letters.
Teacher Rec #2: APUSH Teacher: 10/10. Not sure how this guy writes, but I have a really good relationship with him. Last year he became extremely invested in me and my pf partner’s debate careers, so he would help us prep and come to tournaments with us to watch and help us (and he wasn’t even a paid coach by the school!). All around awesome guy.
Counselor Rec: Maybe 8/10. He was new my junior year, so it was tough for him to get to know me super well. I did the best I could, but it’s tough to build a super strong relationship in a year. He’s pretty involved with the Cross-Country Team, so he knows me as the cross country team captain. I also put together a big portfolio for him for my counselor rec, so hopefully he utilized it.
Interview: FANTASTIC! I did research about her before the interview and I found out she was in our state’s Legislature. So for “Interests” on my CV, I put politics, and we spend a solid 3/4 of the interview talking about politics. I was able to blow her away with my knowledge on the election process and whatnot because our topic for nationals debate last year was literally about the election. She was also heavily involved with One Stone, which put her in a position to talk about all of the cool things that it does in her report that I didn’t have the opportunity to cover in my application. She also asked me if there was anything that I wanted her specifically to talk about in the report, which allowed me to talk about stuff in my common app essay that wasn’t going to Georgetown. Honestly, the interview couldn’t have gone any better.

Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.):
Debate was a pretty big hook, especially because of the essay that I wrote about it. Also One Stone and Leadership.
Reflection
Strengths: Extracurriculars, debate, location, ESSAYS, Interview, GPA, and Class Rank
Weaknesses: ACT and Subject Tests (Lol I bombed those subject tests)
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted: Truthfully, I’m very confused. I was rejected from Notre Dame on Monday, which was by far my number one. After that, I didn’t think I had a prayer at Georgetown. Ultimately I think it was my essays, class rank/GPA, interview, extracurriculars, and leadership experience. Talked a lot in the interview about the different places I’ve taken initiative in both my school and community, and I believe she discussed it in her report.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted: Denied at Notre Dame. Accepted at Boston College, Santa Clara, Carroll College, and University of Idaho. Still waiting on USC and Gonzaga. Might apply Villanova regular decision.
General comments:
I’m pretty thrilled by this one, especially after getting rejected and devastated from my dream school, Notre Dame, on Monday. That rejection legitimately crushed me. I’ve lost all faith in the college admissions process, because I’ll be honest, my essays for Notre Dame were so much better and unique than my ones for Georgetown (Not saying that the Georgetown ones were bad though!). I spent much more time on the ND app, focusing on things that really aligned with their school. I also had numerous people on the inside at ND (Debate coach and high priest) trying to pull me through, but literally nobody at Georgetown. Georgetown seems like a much more selective school than ND, and it doesn’t make sense how I could get in here and not there. Nevertheless, I’m very thankful that God has given me the opportunity to go here, and it’ll be a tough decision between Georgetown, Santa Clara, and Boston College (and the other schools I still need to hear back from)!
