***GEORGETOWN 2021 WAITLIST THREAD***

No, so their goal number is 1600 but they predict that 75 students will not attend next you due to various reasons, such as attending another university, financial reasons, gap year, or etc. Therefore, they want a class size of 1675, in order to get a perfect 1600. Currently they have 1633 and have accepted 25 from the waitlist for a grand total of 1658. Thus, leaving about 15-17 spots left for the remaining 75 students on EWL. But they won’t have their numbers 100% until after June 1 when the accepted waitlist students and others have notified them of their plans. It could be more or less than 15-17; we can’t really know as of now. So we still have some waiting to do. I hope that makes sense.

^ so from that math, we have roughly a 20% chance of getting off the waitlist?

@Cjblodgett Did they say that they predict 75 students won’t predict or is this a hypothetical? That does make sense, but is there any historical trend on how many over they usually admit or other EWL stats? I can’t find anything online.

Thats true. 75 is a large number to predict will say no. So many schools didn’t really even go to their waitlist this year so 75 I think is a high given that. It will be so hard for everyone who dosen’t get in after all this time on the EWL. But I guess thats the chance you take by accepting.

Heard our D was off the waitlist last night! Came in the regular mail…

Amazing. So it was the regular Waitlist or extended? Which school? Congrats.

@HSStudent938 75 is what they are predicting but it seems as if some of their predictions have been wrong this year. So I don’t how hopeful we should be… ugh. I don’t know about you guys but I want this to be over.

admitted into Georgetown College. Very happy, Deposit sent.

Just a question. How long do the people that got accepted off the May 15th wait list have to respond? Wouldn’t admissions know by now if they were accepting, would that mean its possible some people could hear this weeK?

Congrats @camerafriend ! Did you get off the waitlist or extended waitlist?

@camerafriend Congrats! What is your expected major?

Suddenly got very quiet on here. Are people feeling discouraged?

I’m sure activity here will pick back up when EWL decisions start rolling out, but that could still be another few weeks.

BTW which college are you on the extended waitlist for? I am on for MSB, and I don’t think the chances are that great. The MSB regular waitlist acceptance rate is really low, so yield must be good. I’ll still hope for the best though.

Georgetown College. I don’t think it is that more optimistic there.

@student006 Idk I read past the last few years threads and most accepted off the EWL were for the College. I don’t think I saw any at all for MSB.

Have you guys sent anymore updates for the EWL? I sent a LOCI when I was waitlisted, but should I do anything more?

Also, I’m not sure if I’m understanding this right.

This article says there are 1633 students enrolled and they plan to accept 40 from the waitlist. The target for the university is 1600. So does that mean 73 kids would have to drop out before even considering the EWL? But the article also says they have accepted 25 kids from the waitlist, so does that mean they will accept 15 from the EWL? The wording makes it sound really confusing.

If anyone called the office and got any info, please let us know! I tried to call, but the person I talked to seemed very rushed and did not really give me anything.

A parent’s perspective on the EWL:

My understanding from the article and other information is that they anticipate 75 students to withdraw from Georgetown and to accept spots from other college waitlist offers. So in general, the number enrolled for the Fall of 2017 would have to dip below 1600 for G’Town to start looking at the EWL. However, you have to keep in mind that they also have a target number of spots per school so if one school is in need of more incoming freshman, then they might reach out to the EWL for that school earlier.

I called the Admissions Office the other day. They really cannot give an answer to “will you go to the EWL.” Understandably this is all based on other students choosing or declining G’Town. The young man I spoke to was offered a spot off the EWL a few years ago so it has happened. He was called on the evening of the last day. He had less that 24 hours to make his decision. But he agreed that this year is crazy from an application/admissions stand point. So far, they have not used the waitlist to the same extent as in past years.

My advice for all on the EWL is to put the G’Town “what ifs” out of your thoughts. Take control of your future and completely embrace your committed college. Buy the sweatshirt. Find a roommate(s). Learn the Alma Mater. Memorize the shortest route from the coffee shop to the library. Tell people at graduation where you are going. Smile. You are attending a wonderful university.

If, and this is a huge 'if" because the chance is very small, you receive an offer from G’Town off the EWL, then you can worry about your decision. But, and this is far more likely, you don’t receive an offer then you will attending another fantastic school. By focusing your energy on your committed school, you will already have started your college experience. You will do well. Remember, “There are many paths to the same summit” - Hindu

Best of luck to all.

@MommyDearest5 - that’s great advice and exactly what my son is doing. Attending GT is not a guarantee the future will be brighter, it’s what you make of your experience no matter where you attend.

Agreed go Wolverines!
