and for the act, I honestly got kind of lucky. I worked really hard because I’m not good at standardized tests. I was aiming for a 32-34 and took the test, thought highly of my performance (but not 36 high), and was shocked to see I got a perfect score
and for sat iis, i took 3 and got 730 or above on them (also surprised)
@Politicsrule , this might sound crazy, but I believe the definition of first generation college student is when neither of your parents graduated from a university. It might be worth you looking up the definition specific to Georgetown. Not that you’d necessarily need the hook, but I’d want to know for sure.
@winky1 On the apps, there’s a drop down with very specific options. One of them is basically the option to say your parents received some college education, but didn’t graduate. While i’m hoping that will act as a hook in some way, I don’t feel at all hindered by the fact that they didn’t graduate, so I’m not too concerned. Honestly, though, I’m reaching for every possible hook simply because admissions is so difficult. I wouldn’t try to reach too far into it though. I’ll just be truthful and what ever comes of it, comes of it.
Thank you though! I for sure thought about that and I’m not sure if that qualifies me as first generation, but we’ll see:)

Hi everyone,
I am applying EA and just scheduled my interview (we are meeting next week). Has anyone already had their interview? Any tips on what kinds of things are asked?
When do you get contacted about the interview? I’m applying EA too and I don’t know when to expect a notification.
@yayhamlet they emailed me about a week-week and a half after I filled out the initial application
I’ve had my interview! I think it went really well so I’m excited about that! It kind of just started off with more general questions about me and school and then went from there. I think they really try to just let it be unique to each person and see where it goes. It was also a lot more of a two-way discussion personally if that makes sense. Like, it’s not just a time for them to ask questions but a chance for you to as well. Good luck everyone! I’m sure they’ll all go well

So do we get a notification for an interview after we submit the entire application or the first one?
Because I filled out the first one weeks ago and still haven’t received notification.
@TS9034 I got an email about my interview about four-five weeks after I sent in my application. I submitted it in mid-late August and heard back at the beginning of October.
To clarify - that was after the first part. I haven’t submitted the supplement yet.
I just got my alumni contact yesterday, after initially setting up the application about a month ago. (for those curious about the timeline). I sent an email to set up the interview this morning, but does anyone know if the interview has to be done before November 1st? They sent my contact out pretty short notice…
“So do we get a notification for an interview after we submit the entire application or the first one?”
After you send in the first part.
Anyone else spending Halloween editing essays before tomorrow? #:-S
I asked a rep about this @yayhamlet when they visited my city and she said that as long as you get it done with as soon as you can, it’s okay if it’s not done by Nov 1st!
Hey y’all. I’m currently a freshman in the college planning to double major in government and linguistics and let me just tell you that the opportunities and academics and spirit here at Georgetown are unparalleled. I chose this place over an ivy and don’t regret my decision at all. I’m so excited to see all of you talented and smart 2018ers applying to my school. Lemme know if you have any questions and Hoya Saxa!
@mackyg This is so great to hear! Ever since I toured in the spring I’ve known that Georgetown is a special place, but it’s still nice to hear students say positive things I know that admissions is so unpredictable, so do you have any advice as to what I should do if I’m deferred? Is there anything I can do to boost my chance in the regular round? I’m hoping and praying that I get in EA, but you never know!
@maddyduv definitely mention Georgetown a lot in your essay and the specific things you would do here on campus if admitted. Gtown wants to know that you’re going to be involved here and so admissions loves it when you show your enthusiasm about a specific department, professor, club, etc. Hope this helps!
