@siw0300 you sounds like a strong applicant! You’re not considered first gen, however, because you’re dad eventually received his degree.
@siw0300 ^^you’re not first gen but you’ll still probably qualify for GSP, Georgetown’s scholarship program meant for first-gen and other disadvantaged students. They have a very good program and it’s been really helpful personally. Stats-wise, I agree with you in that your ECs are probably your strongest part. Your service work in particular stands out to me. Georgetown’s a school that values service to others, and I think they’ll like that. You have a pretty good chance, but expect the worst, since EA is insanely competitive. Good luck, and I hope to see you on the Hilltop next year!
By the way, SFS students can only do language minors right now. You can probably get a certificate in Latin American studies, however.
Anyone heard yet?
Reading everyone’s “stats” has made me feel pretty hopeless. You guys are amazing, really. Good luck to everyone.
@masquerade98 Gotcha. That’s what I thought, but I wasn’t sure. I’m definitely expecting the worst but still hoping for the best. Thanks for the input!
@siw0300 if they don’t accept you they are insane; your EC’s are so impressive, especially your commitment to continue your service work if you stay in DC. I’m betting that your essay on poetry and spoken word was spectacular. I’ll be interested to hear-
Anyone know if they sent out the letters yet? Im trying to check their social media now.
Nevermind! They tweeted out three hours ago that they mailed them this morning! Got accepted into Notre Dame tonight and am thrilled. Can’t wait for Friday and I’m super nervous. Good luck to everyone!
@syd4ranger wow congrats on ND and good luck
@wannabeafrosh thank you so much for the confidence in me; it’s probably more than my own to be honest, haha. I haven’t read through the previous threads but good luck if you are an applicant!
Hey guys— letters are officially being recieved… I know someone who was deferred, though the mail came around for me and I haven’t recieved anything yet. I wish you all the best of luck and a calm (as possible) afternoon!
mail came to maryland, deferred
@siw0300 are you in MD/DC area?? Im in MD and haven’t received anything although the mail came…!!
YUP! Same thing happened to me lol @canigetahoyaa
Does anyone know how likely GU is to admit someone with a 31 act but awesome ec’s for early compared to regular?
If you are deferred, do you still have a chance during regular? I’m praying for a miracle
@kizooz It depends on so many factors. GPA, SAT II, ECs, Essays…we’ll need more than an ACT score, but I guess you’ll officially find out tomorrow or Saturday (hopefully)(:
@admb12000 They don’t take all APs. You send your AP scores after you’re accepted. You’ll get a packet about it if you’re accepted.
@newkidnewtrix I’m sophomore biology major right now at Georgetown. What would you like to know about it? It’s a great program. We’re pretty tightly-knit, and everyone is super nice. It’s not uber competitive like at other schools. We actually have four different biology majors: Biology, Biology of Global Health, Neurobiology, and Environmental Biology. You come in as a Biology major or undeclared, and then you specify what major you want in your first semester sophomore year. Most people decide to be Biology of Global Health majors, but I’m a normal Biology major.
Deffered from my dream school, 34 ACT and got into BC and Notre Dame in the last two days. Really sad but its probably just not meant to be. In the letter it says about 10% of deffered applicants end up getting in. Congrats to everyone who got in and good luck to us deffered peeps.
