Do we get EA results in the mail along with being on the portal, or just in the mail tomorrow?

@smsr2000 Just regular mail, unless you’re international (in which case you get an email).

Is it guaranteed that we all get results tomorrow, or could some people learn later, depending on where they live in the country?

not going to add everything but deferred, 33 and 4.6

I think geography will impact when you hear.

Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Merit Scholar Semifinalist, some AP Scholar Award (can’t remember which), Girls Nation Delegate

Subjective:

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Research at local university, Student Senate (basically our form of student government), Varsity Golf (Captain), Key Club (Service Coordinator), Mock Trial (Varsity Attorney), NHS, Yearbook staff, Peer mentoring/international student mentoring/retreat leader
Job/Work Experience: I tutored some kids in my neighborhood throughout the summers. Nothing really official.
Volunteer/Community service: Campaign Fellow for the Hillary for Ohio Campaign and Ted Strickland Gubernatorial Campaign, my parish’s Vacation Bible School
Summer Activities: Research, tutoring; I attended both Girls State and Girls Nation in Washington D.C. from which I was chosen to be one of seven counselors at the 2019 session of Girls Nation.
Essays (rating 1-10, details): 9/10; I used my Common App essay for the personal essay and I compared how my writing style has changed overtime to my love of discovery in my research. My Why Georgetown Essay was my favorite essay to write. My brother attended SFS, so I framed it around the fight song lol. For my school/summer activity essay, I wrote about Girls Nation and when we met Donald Trump at the White House in light of my spending 4 months working on Hillary’s Campaign.
Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):

Teacher Rec #1: From my freshman and AP Biology teacher, 9/10. She has had such an influence on my life and I am extremely close to her and her entire family. She cultivated my love for science and I put a lot of work into her class. Just knowing her, I imagine the letter was a bit dry, but quite sincere.
Teacher Rec #2: From my freshman US History teacher and AP US Government teacher, 10/10. Another teacher who has had a tremendous impact on my life. Outside of class, we discuss politics a lot and once we had a very long conversation about feminism, specifically intersectional feminism. He had never heard of it before so I taught him all about it and he said that he was definitely going to put that in my rec. Probably more personal than the first recommendation, more anecdotal, but still very sincere.
Counselor Rec: 10/10. I spend almost any free time I have in her office. Again, a very important teacher in my life. She’s gotten to know me really well and I think she really worked to convey my multidimensional interests in policy and science in an interesting way.
Additional Rec: 8/10, from the professor whose lab I worked in over the summer. He’s a respected guy in the structural biology field and worked hard to get to know me. All the other grad students and lab managers pitched in to help him write it, so there were multiple perspectives of my work. The letter basically explained what work I did, why it is important, and why my research should make them want to accept me. I also sent my research abstract from the paper I wrote.
Interview: By far the best interview I’ve had. I interviewed with a woman who graduated in 2002 I think and we had so many things in common. By nature of having a sibling at the University, I know so much about GU, so I could really talk a lot about why I love the school so much with specific examples. Talked for an hour and a half I think.

Other:

Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes
Intended Major: Double major in Biology and Justice and Peace Studies.
State (if domestic applicant): OH
School Type: Private Parochial
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Nothing really; the only thing that could make me stand out was my brother’s association with the school

Reflection:

Strengths: Test scores, research, recommendations
Weaknesses: ECs are a bit run of the mill
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted: I made it really clear how much GU meant to me to the Admissions Office throughout the entire process.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted: So far, nowhere else! This is my first school to hear back from.

General Comments: Boy was I glad to see that letter in my mailbox this afternoon lol, #possiblyHoyas2022 ???

Decision: Accepted- Human Science in NHS

SAT I (breakdown): 1540 (800 Math, 740 EBRW) This is superscored from three sittings.
ACT (breakdown): I took it, but I canceled my scores immediately because they confiscated my ‘illigal’ calculator!
SAT II: 800 Math 2, 800 Bio M
Weighted GPA: 4.35/4.0- All A’s- Not a single B on my transcript
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): School doesn’t submit rank
AP (place score in parenthesis): Calc AB (5), Bio (5), APUSH (5), AP Lang (3)
Major Awards: Eagle Scout, NJ State Seal of Biliteracy in English and Latin

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis):
-Boy Scouts (Senior Patrol Leader for a year-Equivalent to President. Also Assistant Senior Patrol Leader for a year)
-School Concert Band, Jazz Band, Pit Orchestra (Trumpet)
-Piano Lessons since I was 5
-NHS, math and science honors societies
-Volunteering at Nursing Home
-Shadowed A Doctor twice
-JV Tennis Team for 2 years, then Quit
-Summer Job as PT aide at Physical Therapy Clinic -30 hours per week
Volunteer/Community service:

-Mixed in with EC’s above, but I also led my Eagle Project which took 130 hours of planning and work.
Summer Activities:
-Attended Congress of Future Medical Leaders Summer Before Junior Year.

-Summer Job (Stated Above) before Senior Year.

-I basically chilled a lot during the summer while getting things done (college apps, SAT prep, Eagle project, etc.) Make sure you enjoy yourself during your summers off
Essays (rating 1-10, details): I spent a lot of time on these and they were great!
-Common App: Don’t wanna share details because it’s very specific about me
-Why Georgetown: I wrote about my love for helping people and how Georgetown’s NHS will prepare me to be a doctor. I also mentioned that Georgetown was my #1 school, I think that helped.
-Extracurricular: Wrote about music, what it means to me, and mentioned my interest in Georgetown’s music extracurriculars
Teacher Rec #1: Genetics Teacher- since its an elective, she gets very little rec letters to do, so I definitely think she put time into writing them. Also She really thought Highly of me she emailed my parents multiple times about me (Good things!)
Teacher Rec #2: Calc teacher- I was the only one that took interest in calc lol everyone else in my class goofed off while I actually tried to learn. I think he saw that in me!
Counselor Rec: Good! Every Student in my school had to fill out a survey detailing what the counselor should write about in your rec. Also, she also knows me by name which is rare in a large public school; that must be a good thing.
Interview: Went Very well! Lasted much longer than she said it should last! I communicated to her my love for Georgetown!

Intended Major: Human Science
State (if domestic applicant): NJ
School Type: Large Public
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None  I got in on my own merits!

Strengths: Grades, SATs, Recommendations, Eagle Scout, Interview, Leadership
Weaknesses:
-My schedule could have been more rigorous… I took 3 AP and 2 Honors junior year while my buddies were grinding on 5-6 APs (I might have watched every family guy episode that year)
-I went very thin on humanities/social sciences classes to make room for extra science classes. My lack of English/History/Gov classes could’ve hurt me
-No ridiculously unique EC’s. Just typical Stuff.

Why you think you were accepted:
-Test Scores. I honestly think the standardized tests matter a lot considering the fact that a large factor in the school’s rank is its average SAT or ACT score. For every recruited athlete they accept with a low score, Georgetown needs multiple high-scoring students to bring up their average.

-Eagle Scout- this is a nationally recognized award that shows leadership, service, and dedication to reach a long-time goal.

-Interest in music (Georgetown needs to fill their bands with musicians)
-Math/science rigor- I am currently in Multivariable Calc, AP Physics C, and AP Chem; being that the human science major is a science-intensive program, they like to see high-level science skills. I also took Honors Genetics as an elective Junior Year, further demonstrating my interest in science.
-Interest in healthcare- I demonstrated my interest in medicine by going to Congress of future medical leaders over the summer and my summer job as PT aid. Human Science is primarily a pre-healthcare major, so I think they like to see actual interest in the healthcare field.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted: Nowhere Yet!
Essays- They were engaging. Hint: Try to include a lot of anecdotes in your essays because it’s so boring for them to read off simple lists of things. Imagine being an admissions officer reading essays for 8 hours a day…

Reflection: Seriously guys, just be yourself. If you’re not a Nobel prize researcher at the age of 15, don’t force yourself to be one. Just do things you enjoy and convey your enthusiasm for those things and show the school you are interested in joining a related EC at their school.

***Note to others- SAT Essay is definitely not considered. I got a 9/24 (Yikes!!!) on my first SAT Essay sitting (Had no clue how to answer the new rhetorical analysis prompt they gave) and a 17/24 on my second try.

Comment:
My parents and I were scared when we saw a small envelope, until we opened it and saw the acceptance letter!

Seriously, you’re all great. Everyone will end up in the college they are meant to be in, whether it be Georgetown, Harvard, or a state school. Good Luck with everything!!!

We talked a lot about where Georgetown is, its climate, and his time spent there. it was really fascinating because he was there during watergate and Vietnam. He said he would write me a really goood rec. at the end but cautioned it with you’re competing against people from the Xavier school ( a really good school in Phoenix, AZ) and I thought it was over from there.

Recommendations (rating 1-10, details): I got one from my 10th grade English teacher who knows me super well and who’s been involved in pretty much all of my extracurriculars (10/10, I read it), and I got one from my AP Calc teacher who I know likes me pretty well (I didn’t read it), and then a supplemental one from the Vice Mayor of my city who knows me through the youth services board and likes me a lot (should have really helped since I applied as a gov major)

Counselor Rec: Should have been decent, she’s new to the school this year but me met multiple times and she “interviewed” me to get to know me better

Interview: I really enjoyed it! It was awkward at first (as expected) but my interviewer had just graduated Gtown (like 4 months earlier) and was attending med school in my city. We didn’t have much in common in that aspect since she’s a STEM kind of person, but we connected because she was involved in a club at Gtown that’s really similar to a club I was involved in, and she loved that I asked tons of questions

Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes
Intended Major: Government
State (if domestic applicant): VA
School Type: very large urban public school, but consistently nationally ranked in academics (~2000 kids, 400 in my class)
Ethnicity: White
Gender: female
Income Bracket: ~125,000? not sure
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None

Reflection

Strengths: ACT score, grades, course rigor, recommendations, essays
Weaknesses: SAT score, 640 USH SAT II score, my counselor rec could have been pretty generic
Why you think you were accepted: Hopefully I conveyed my passion for government, and I think my Why Georgetown essay really emphasized that I love the school
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted: Accepted EA to UGA in November, applied EA to UVA but haven’t heard back yet, planning to apply to Vanderbilt and Duke RD

General comments

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): MUN(SG for international conference, School President, Over 40 conferences, contributing a lot for MUN conferences in Korea), Knowledge Bowl(Team President), NHS(Founding Member), Research(2 Research Papers), Diplomatic Forums, etc (Mostly IR focused)

Job/Work Experience: International Cooperation Intern for an NGO, HR Manager for a Non-Profit Organization

Volunteer/Community service: Local Community, Church, School

Essays (rating 1-10, details): My first one was about how MUN was a tool of expression for me(8-9), second one was how living in a boarding school that is at the most southernmost island in my country has changed me just like how I changed my community (8-10), and for the last SFS essay I said that as I am a “byproduct of the lasting security alliance between my country and the United States” I feel Donald Trump’s twitter account was a problem because it undermines the role of the United States in international diplomacy.

Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):
Teacher Rec #1: AP US History Teacher. I was really close with her and shared a lot of political viewpoints and worldly perspectives, and also with a good performance in class, I trust I got a good recommendation even though I didn’t read it(10)
Teacher Rec #2: AP Macro/AP Psych Teacher. Also close with him, taking his class for the past three years, have a lot of connection and also worked hard in class. (10)
Counselor Rec: Met him multiple times, really close with him and shared a lot with him. Guessing somewhere between an 8 to a 10.
Additional Rec: N/A
Interview: Did it with the Alumni Admissions Committee Chairman because the local alumni was sick. Took a 1 hour flight to get there. Personally, I think it went amazing! Did a 1.5 hour interview, on various topics not only about myself and my life, but went really deep and academic. After talking with him and doing the interview, I think the interview experience really made Georgetown a quite solid choice for me, and I got the impression that I matched with the school. (10)

Reflection

Strengths: Essay, LOR, Interview
Weaknesses: Maybe GPA or ACT?
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted: I think that ‘being myself’ was really helpful for me, especially in the interviews in the essays. For example, even though it might be a risky shot, the Georgetown supplement essay that I wrote for SFS was something that truly reflected my worldview and background, and it eventually worked out at the end. I believe this truthfulness and passion that I have shown in my apps are what got me in.

Where else were you accepted/waitlisted: Schools in the UK

Extracurricular Essay: Wrote about my robotics team and made the robot we built seem alive in the essay. (9)
Personal Essay: Wrote about my struggles as a transgender person; compared not coming out to the destruction of a hurricane (Wrote this months before Harvey hit, so yeah, kinda a coincidence.)

Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):
Haven’t read any of them so unsure of how great their recommendations were.

Reflection

Strengths: Interview went surprisingly well for me! I was nervous but speaking about myself boosted my confidence levels. Plus, I was comfortable talking with the interviewer since he was such a nice guy. My essays, based on the reviews my teachers gave, were amazing.
Weaknesses: Test Scores. Some of my ECs did not connect with what I wanted to do in the future, so I guess that’s a minus.
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted: I don’t know. I’m still in shock since I’ve been waiting since Friday and the applicants who received their acceptance letters earlier had stats far better than mine.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted: Auto-admit to the University of Texas at Austin, University of Houston Main Campus/Honors College, Deferred at the University of Chicago.

ACT (breakdown): 34, 35 superscored
SAT II: 780 (M2), 680 (Lit), 660 (Physics)

Essays (rating 1-10, details): Why GT (7-8, I thought it was well written and tied into my major well), Extracurricular essay (9, I really liked my essay it was about student leadership and I had an anecdote), Personal essay (8, just used my Common App essay but tailored it more to the question)

Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):

Teacher Rec #1: 8; it was from my English teacher who prob knows how to write a good letter.
Teacher Rec #2: 6; my math teacher who taught me all 4 years.
Counselor Rec: 9; my counselor really likes me and tells me that she’s been planning what to write since I was in 6th grade. Has some cute stories about my passions and stuff
Interview: I’m not really sure how this went. The lady was middle aged, and she seemed to like me decently enough but I can’t really gauge what she thought about what I had to say. Also, she was kind of in a rush and wanted to leave to do something so I didn’t get to ask her all the questions I had.

Reflection: Honestly, I thought I had a chance. I’m kinda bummed but also I’m not taking it as badly as I thought I would (no tears!..yet). I know I’ll be fine wherever I go but… damn I really like DC! Anyways, this result kinda turned me off of GT; I guess I’ll focus my attention on other schools.

Strengths: Extracurriculars, activities, essays (maybe)
Weaknesses: SAT II, also I don’t have anything that’s too crazy (no big job at politician’s office, etc.)
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted: I guess I just didn’t stand out anywhere. No part of my application was super phenomenal. Also, just looking off other results, I feel like GT accepts people with specific types of extracurriculars like community service or politics/government.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted: Only heard back from my state school and Tulane (accepted to both)

General comments:
Sad but things will go on. Congrats to everyone that got in, and good luck to people who haven’t heard back yet (I know… the letters process is so frustrating)!
