Georgetown 2023 Applicants Discussion

Do acceptances and rejections arrive in the mailbox at the same time?

I just realized I had the wrong counselor name on the first part of the application. I submitted it before school started and on the first day of school found out that counselor just up and left with no warning :,) Do y’all think admissions will think anything of the fact that the counselor rec came from a different person than what I originally listed? Really hope they don’t reject me because they think I’m trying to lie about something…

@rockstar01121 No. Relax. All good.

I live 30 mins away from GU. Expecting to check the postage price on informed delivery tomorrow morning. Hopefully its on my informed delivery dashboard.

Hoping it’s up on informed delivery for central NJ tomorrow. If not tomorrow, probably Friday but still hoping for the chance that its tomorrow

@FrenchHorn240 Def a possibility. First class mail is 1-3 days.
Should know by 7-8 am tomorrow if it’s on the way!

Hi everyone,

With my brother applying to college, including Georgetown, I have inevitably found myself back in these forums after a five year absence (when I was applying for college). Having graduated from Georgetown in 2018 I wanted to say quickly that while your choice of college is of course a big decision you are facing right now, realize that no matter what you will be okay–which is something I wish people had told me when I was going through this in Spring 2014. College is a time for learning about yourself and the world and is one of the only times were you will be told for 4 years just to “think” on those issues and determine how you will shape yourself and the world.

For context, I was deferred EA, waitlisted RD, then put on the extended waitlist, and then denied the first time I applied to Georgetown. It was a whirlwind of emotions for me that lasted far too long. This is a stressful and anxious time where it feels like every, little, decision, matters. For me, in the end, I went to a small liberal arts college for my first year of college and then, realizing that it wasn’t the right fit for me, applied again as a transfer to Georgetown and was fortunate enough to be accepted my sophomore year. Nevertheless in that first year at my original school, I found myself more and what I wanted to do with my career as well as also met friends and mentors who are some of the most important people to me now.

Where I am going with this is to tell you that the path that you take over the next four years no matter what can be, and likely, will be very different and nonlinear than the one you see yourself on right now. For those of you accepted to the university–Congratulations, welcome to the Hilltop, and Hoya Saxa. Feel free to message me if you have questions about the university, campus life, majors (particularly within the SFS), or with other DC related issues.

For others who were not accepted, wbo were waitlisted, or who did not apply and are just on this forum–I offer you this:

“Life is full of surprises and serendipity. Being open to unexpected turns in the road is an important part of success. If you try to plan every step, you may miss those wonderful twists and turns. Just find your next adventure-do it well, enjoy it-and then, not now, think about what comes next.”- (generally attributed to Secretary Condoleezza Rice)

And to everyone–good luck tomorrow (when some decisions might show up in USPS informed delivery --which was not a thing when I was applying–and then in mailboxes and through the portal on April 1st which was also not an option of mine “back in my time”) and over the next few days and weeks. Enjoy the last few months of high school and your friends from this period of your life.

Like I said-- feel free to reach out if you have questions.

Do you guys think sibling legacy helps with admission to GU?

@Forbetterorworse Thank you so much for that. It’s so important to maintain a sense of perspective during this crazy time, and I sometimes find myself guilty of not doing so.

about to check Informed delivery in 10-20 minutes… prob getting the .44 but its okay

So far my informed delivery says I have one piece of mail coming today (unusually low) and “There is a mailpiece for which we do not currently have an image that is included in Today’s mail.” Only one piece of mail and no image. So helpful!

@jec30 yeah i tried lol, they arnet allowed to tell you your decision n over the phone as of yesterday

According to this morning’s USPS Informed delivery, no GU letter for our daughter today. We live in the outer burbs of DC in Northern Virginia (Prince William County), only 35 miles west of Georgetown. I guess she’ll see it tomorrow! It’s the last school she’s waiting on, sigh.

I live <50miles of GT and email does not show image but has 3 mail images were not included.

Did anyone receive USPS informed delivery image? May be this year size of the mail is too big to be scanned? We did not receive some college mail images, which are big.

An email says decisions were sent via USPS yesterday and that decisions can be verified via portal access as of 3/30.

The email doesn’t include a link to the portal. Anyone care to share that link? Googling “Georgetown Applicant Portal” yields no relevant results.

Unlikely that Georgetown would buck tradition and start using large envelopes for regular decision when they sent small envelopes for EA decisions. Compared to other schools the Georgetown paperwork has been sparse. Seems like most East Coasters and mid Atlanticers will get mail tomorrow. Look through the EA thread at posts dated between Dec 13 and Dec 17.

I live 30 mins away from GU and no letter found on Informed delivery.

In our USPS for today live in Montgomery County, MD. Postage posted is .50

I can see Georgetown from the roof of my building. Informed Delivery shows no letter from GU today…

Also in Montgomery County, MD, 15 miles from GU, but nothing in my informed delivery today.
