Georgetown ‘23 ... do I even stand a chance?

Posting this here because it seems appropriate.

Hi guys, I never thought I’d be posting a “chance me” thread… but here I am.

I applied to MSB, c/o of 2023.
Here is my profile:

-SAT I : 1490 superscore (E:700/M:790).
-SAT IIs: Math 2 (710), USH (700), World His (640- yikes, I know.)
-GPA: 4.21W. My school doesn’t do unweighted or ranking. I did get a few Bs junior year. For senior year, I’m expecting to end with 6 As 1 B for 1st semester.

-ECs:
Founder of a Retail Business (10-12 grade)
Head Instructor of a Korean Language Academy (4 Years)
Shift Manager of a Restaurant (2 Years)
President of a Special Needs Assistance Organization (2 Years)
Officer of FBLA (3 Years)
Manager of School Merchandise Store (1year)
Administrator of an Evangelism Outreach Organization (4 Years)
Organized fundraisers for East African Refugees (2 Years)
Officer of Student Council (2 Years)
Played Piano for 11 Years
Coding Instructor for Elementary Students (1 Year)
Bible Study Teacher (3 Years)

-Awards/Honors:
President’s Volunteer Service Award (Silver) - two times
Business Student of the Year (at my high school)
Certifications in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint
Top Performance Awards at my Piano Recitals (2 times)

-Essays:
Activity: well written, clear, and concise. I wouldn’t consider it AMAZING though. I talked about how I changed my students’ lack of cultural pride/dispositions as a Korean teacher (7/10)
Personal Statement: talked about how I grew up poor and how I met someone who changed my life, and used this experience to heal my community (7.5/10)
Why McDonough?: I think this one was my best one. I talked about the business I started and how I found out that the Chinese manufacturers i worked with were beating/sexually abusing children, so I cut my business ties with them, and I took on the role of being an entrepreneur that took on global social justice issues. I tied that in with my Christian values closely relating to GT’s Jesuit values and my experience touring Georgetown/what I could contribute to McDonough. I was specific with particular programs, clubs I was interested in (8.5/10).

-LORs:
Counselor: she likes me, and she was impressed with my motives for business. I don’t think anything too spectacular though (7/10).
APUSH teacher: she liked me and I was a good student. (7/10)
Marketing Teacher: I met her this year, so when she showed me my rec, she talked a lot about what was on my resume. However, she did talk about my dedication as a student and entrepreneur. (7.5/10)
FBLA/Business Teacher- she loved me!! We were very close and she even gave me rides home/took me out for dinner. I’ve known her for 3 years. (8.5-9/10).

-Other info:
I’m Asian, Female.
I am First Generation.
Super low income.
Interview - Decent. I was very nervous and my interviewer was shy. We talked about my business and I asked her questions about her GT experience.

Sorry for this being SUPER long. Georgetown is my absolute dream school and I can’t imagine myself anywhere but there. I really appreciate anyone’s input. I would just like an idea as to how I stand as an applicant. Thank you so much!!

Anyone??

How does your high school weight? For example, is an A in an AP class a 5.0? It’s going to be a little hard comparing your GPA without knowing that or seeing your course rigor. (And me personally, my son was an ACT guy so I just don’t know SAT ranges). I’ve read that GT values foreign language skills and ECs, so you’ve got a plus there. Your SAT IIs seem low and GT takes those very seriously. (My son’s were lower…he doesn’t really have a chance but he applied anyway as the dream/reach). Your Why McD sounds great.

@TS0104 Yes, an A in an AP class is a 5.0. For honors, an A is a 4.5. I’ve taken 9 APs total and never took any regular courses.
My SAT score (1490) is a 33 when converted to ACT.

And I’m hoping my essays and ECs can pull me through! My subject tests are definitely not strong, but I guess it doesn’t hurt trying to apply. Thank you for your input! If your son applied this year, best wishes to him!

Georgtown doesn’t superscore and you are required to send them everything. What were your SAT scores?

@JBStillFlying I’m almost certain that Georgetown considers the highest portions of your SAT (superscore) when you send all of your scores in. Correct me if I’m wrong. & I got two 1430s and 1380 (terrible test day) when considering my separate scores.

For the SAT they consider your highest reading and your highest math (in contrast to ACT which just looks at highest composite), and they consider the number of times you test. This is different from the CA, which allows you to enter the highest score and the test date, so no more than two. However, assuming that your 1380 was your first test, they may not pay much attention to it, especially given the consistency of your two subsequent tests.

It’s best to concord by section or just compare each section score to the Georgetown range in order to assess the strength of your standardized tests.

Good luck to you!

@JBStillFlying yikes, that’s not pleasant to hear  But thank you for your response! I really appreciate it.

^Context is important, and so is your entire application since they review holistically. My post was to point out a small misunderstanding about standardized testing. That doesn’t mean you don’t have a strong application. ?

@JBStillFlying thank you for the reassurance. I’ll be crossing my fingers hard!

@hg0987 I think your SAT and your Subject Tests are a little low for an ORM, but no one knows what the AO will think when looking at your app.
