Georgetown: A rich kid's school?

I was discussing colleges with a friend of mine a few days ago and he remarked that he always thought of Georgetown as being a rich kid's school. I was taken aback slightly, as I have never had that impression despite the fact that a majority of undergrads come from private schools. I know they give out a lot of financial aid and the such (as every school does) but does the atmosphere feel like a rich kids school? I mean, I consider myself to be a bit preppy (I harbor an affection for polo shirts), but I don't want to go to a school where that is THE primary mentality. I want to go to a school with smart people who are interesting and engaged in the school, not the "frat boy/sor chick" type (I know Georgetown does not have frats, I am referring to that type of person)

I really like Georgetown's programs and other features...Any insights will be appreciated

I've never thought of Georgetown as a rich kid's school...I mean, being an expensive private school, it's bound to have some of those kids, but compared to Ivies and such, it's no more rich...I think you will find a lot of engaging, intelligent students. At least, when I visited Georgetown, it seemed very friendly, not snobby at all.

Does Georgetown give a lot of financial aid? I've heard that it's not the best...that it gives a lot of loans.

I got excellent financial aid but statistics speak for themselves. 56% of Georgetown students receive absolutely no financial aid. I'm just in the 44% that do. :P As for the main question posed here: It definitely has it's "rich school" moments and people. However, once you find your good group of friends it either a) won't matter to you anymore b) it'll be less or non apparent to you or c) you're part of the group! Lol!

Does your excellent financial aid leave you with a lot of loans though?

Yea, Georgetown is hardly a model for excellence in finanical aid. It is not exactly generous in it's consideration of what exactly defines need.

I wish Georgetown had the endowment to follow Princeton's lead- now that's GOOD financial aid.

Yea but you first need really dedicated and generous alums to fund that kind of venture. Princeton is known for die-hard loyal alums (who tend to be quite rich and giving).
