I’m worried my SAT scores will prevent me from getting accepted, even though the rest of my application is strong.
SAT: 1300, 1340, and most recently a 1360
Subject Tests: US History, Literature, and Math I to be taken in December (I am studying hard for these)
GPA: 4.268
Class Rank: 1st out of 33
Ethnicity: white
Gender: female
Teacher rec: Will be great (have known both teachers for years)
Guidance counselor rec: Will be amazing, I have a great relationship with my counselor (have known her for 4 years)
APs: Human geography, world history, computer science, chemistry, calculus AB, lang, lit, government, macroeconomics, and psychology (and two dual enrollment course, US History and comparative politics)
Extracurriculars: Junior and Senior class president, Varsity Volleyball (9th and 11th grade), Model US Senate, International Club, NHS president, Red cross volunteer, Navy Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) volunteer, Peer Mediator at school (I would have participated in more activities, but my school is a very small school on a Navy base in Spain with only a few extracurriculars offered so I have done as much as I can), Bosch and Lomb scholarship nominee
I am applying to the SFS as an early action applicant with hopes of joining the Foreign Service after college. I just had my interview in Madrid and I think it went excellently, which is great. I think I would be a fantastic fit at the SFS due to my history of being a military brat and moving around to so many different places (and living overseas for 7 years), but I know my SAT score will affect my chances at getting in. Do I have a chance?
I think it really depends on the SAT II. if you do very very well on these it will show them that you are capable in a wide variety of subjects. On he other hand, if you only do ok on them then i think your chances will greatly diminish. Just remember that there is always a chance of admittance and to keep a positive mindset.
Senior applying to Gtown as well.
SAT is low by their standards, but your EC’s are pretty strong and living overseas could potentially be very intriguing to an admissions counselor. Probably comes down to how well you do on the SAT II’s, but I’d think you have a decent shot if you apply.
