Georgetown Chances?

Hi! I’m a junior in HS right now who’s planning on applying Early Action to Georgetown for the class of 2025. I plan on applying to SFS as either a IPEC or STIA major (interested in international/public policy, environmental policy). Georgetown is on the very top of my list as one of my reach schools.

Course Load and GPA:
Freshman+Sophomore AP Classes: Human Geography and Comparative Politics
Current AP Classes: Stat, Environmental Science, Lang, US History
Senior AP Classes: Micro, Lit, Calc AB, Spanish Lang
Other classes were just general Honors chemistry, Honors algebra 2, Honors precalculus, etc. I took regular biology freshman year, but since then have taken all honors/AP.

Current GPA: 4.98/4.6 (my school has a weird weighting system that will take too long to explain. In short, a 4.6 is an A+ in a regular level class. Honors and AP classes are weighted higher)
I don’t know what my junior year grades will look like yet, but I think I might end with my first B on a final report card :frowning:

Standardized Test Scores:
1430 (700 EBRW, 730 Math)
Plan on taking ACT in September (hoping for 33+)
Plan on taking Math, US History, and Spanish Subject Tests

Extracurriculars/Volunteering Experience:
JSA (Started since freshman year, Chapter board member and president, Regional Cabinet for since sophomore year)
Drama Club (started since sophomore year)
NHS, Spanish NHS, International Thespian Society (inducted junior year)
Church Youth Group (since before high school, President)
Volunteer to help elementary/middle school kids with hw
Summer Volunteer for Vacation Bible School

Other general statistics:
First Generation College Student
Large, public HS in NJ (about 2000 students)
Asian Male
Low income bracket, Applying for financial aid

This won’t be written anywhere on my application, but I’m also in a program at my school about international studies so a lot of my course load has a social science theme to it. For example, my freshman and sophomore year English classes were not just Honors English I and II, but rather Honors World and American Literature. Currently taking Honors Latin American Studies and International Law/Human Rights as half year classes.

I also want to expand my college search. I’m also really interested in American and GW, but Georgetown has the most generous financial aid offer.

Hi, current student here, IPEC major admitted EA*. I’d say you have a decent shot although your SAT is a touch on the low side. Candidly, there are going to be a good number of applicants with academic profiles/resumes, so good letters of rec and essays that show your personality and why you want to go to Georgetown specifically could move you from having a chance to having a strong chance. Good luck!

*(I was admitted to the College and then transferred-if you know you want to be in the SFS apply to the SFS though.)

Yeah I wasn’t the proudest of my SAT score and I’m not planning on submitting it to my other reach schools, but as you probably know Georgetown requires all test scores. I’m trying to get a 33 or 34 on the ACT to better match Georgetown’s standards and am aiming for 750+ on the subject tests. With coronavirus I’m still trying to figure out when to take those. Thank you for your advice!
