Georgetown Class of 2017 EA/RD Discussion Thread

@meadow1234

It’s quite possible that email was Georgetown’s version of a “likely letter” if not everyone received it. I’m only speculating that because the email included language along the lines of “continue to investigate Georgetown as you await a decision.”

My stats are as follows.

SAT 2320 (800 Math, 780 Writing, 740 Critical Reading)
Subject Tests - 800 Math II, 800 Chemistry, 790 Biology M, 790 US History
GPA (W/UW) - 107.71 / 97.06 (on a 100 scale)
Rank - 1/196
National Merit Semi-Finalist
Student Government Elected Officer - 10, 11, 12
Varsity Swimming 9, 10, 11, 12 (Captain 12)
USA Club Swimming since 8th grade, have qualified for national meets
Research Intern at Children’s Hospital Boston - published in medical journal
Editor-in-Chief of Student Daily Bulletin (daily publication)
Editor-in-Chief of annual literary magazine

Not going to post the rest of my extra-curriculars and what not.

Got the email. But I’m not reporting my stats because I don’t think the email had anything to do with it. You will all be able to find those stats anyway when I post my EA decision.

So did everyone get the email?

I got the email. Here are my stats:
2220 SAT (720 CR, 700 M, 800 W)
4.0 UW GPA
Valedictorian of Private Catholic School
AP: US 4, Lang 5, Gov 5, Art History 5
-THIS YEAR: AP Euro, Latin, Calculus, Bio, Lit
Subject Test: 760 Math II, 720 Latin, 750 Math I

Mock Trial Captain
Classically Trained Pianist (12 years) volunteer lobby pianist (~120hrs)

Hospital Volunteer (400 hrs)
Work: Top Cancer Hospital Internship: Worked in Biology Lab- Letter of Recommendation from Chair

I am not really sure that it was a likely letter though. Maybe if not everyone got it. I don’t know how a likely letter is written but it wasn’t like “Congrats you’ve made it!” So I can’t count in that.

There was an email that was sent when Part 1 was completed that also said “Greetings from Georgetown.”

Greetings from Georgetown Admissions!

Thank you for initiating your Georgetown University application for the fall of 2013. Whether you have submitted your application for Early Action review or plan to complete your application for Regular Decision, the Admissions Committee looks forward to reading your file and learning more about you. Early Action candidates can expect to receive a decision letter by the 15th of December. Until then, we wanted to highlight some of the opportunities awaiting you on the Hilltop below and we hope that you will continue to research and learn more about all of the academic, cultural and athletic opportunities available on our campus.

For the two people who posted on Dec 10 they received an email from Georgetown, was it the one above or a different one? If it was a different one, can you please tell us specifically what it said.

Thank you

That’s the one but I didn’t get that when I submitted I sent in my part one in early October. I don’t think it was for submitting part I, maybe the whole app though.

i got that a while after I sent in my whole app

For those that didn’t get the email yet, check your spam folder.

I highly doubt it is an indication of admission because I received the email on the 29th at which time my app was still under review (they asked me to send a supplementary transcript from my dual-enrollment school, so I assume they had not yet finished).

Divy1234,

Thank you for letting me know…may have been an overreaction on my part when I read the two Dec 10 posts…thought they were new emails…this is nerve-wracking…sorry for any confusion.

yup i think it was just for the application.
anyhow, i’m almost positive ill get it this saturday…

praying for a large envelope??? (I should right?)

Not so much a large envelope (normal size) as it is a FAT envelope.

Did you already get your acceptance letter?

My brother was accepted last year. The acceptance letter is enclosed in a standard, normal sized envelope.

If I get accepted into the College it will be as a Government major. I eventually want to go into law, so would it be smart to try and seek a transfer into either SFS or the Business School? Or is the Government department there really good?

I got the email. It went to my spam folder, so check there if you didn’t see it.

I don’t think it’s any kind of “likely letter” though. I don’t think they have a reason to do that.

My stats (briefly): 4.5 weighted GPA, 2170 SAT, NMSF, ok ECs

Does anyone know if the Writing is even seen, like would it be a extremely small thought in the sat category? I’m asking cause it’s my best score.

Divy, I had the same issue, so I took the ACT. The English/Reading portion of the ACT is easier than the Critical reading of the SAT, IMO. It makes up for that by having a harder English section, but since Georgetown does not look at it it doesn’t matter.

Does anyone have any insight on how accurate the postage calculator (posted earlier) is? It tells me I will get my letter Saturday, but I really want to cling to the hope that I’ll get it before then. Also, even though I know I won’t get mine tomorrow, I’m just excited to see some decisions. Good luck, everyone!

I think it’s pretty accurate. I bet the majority of us will find out Friday or Saturday. Hoping to hear from some people tomorrow though!
